a customer brought me a kimber 1911 sis custom. it has an ambidextrous safety on the gun. the man wants a new long trigger installed. i have figured out how to get both safety levers out but the hammer pivot pin has me stumped. usually it just pushed out from right to left but this pin is double headed. the larger head on the right side fits in a slot on the safety lever on that side and the head on the left side keeps it from sliding through the frame. i assume it is some sort of two piece pin. anyone know how to remove it.
thanks,
max

Sounds odd. It should still push out right to left. Have a picture?

If it went in it has to come out.

i agree but i have to believe that it is a two piece pin as it has a head of larger than hole diameter on both sides. the right side safety lever is milled out, sorta like a t-slot on a milling machine, and rides over the right side pin head. i called kimber technical support and all sergio wanted to do was go through the field strip procedure. i then tried to buy a kimber made ambi safety assembly to see how the parts were made and was told it had to be installed by the factory.

Shooter42: I thought this would be about removing the right safety lever, but it sounds like you already figured that part out. The hammer pin is one piece and will come out (from right to left) with some gentle tapping; the right side is smaller than the left. The hammer pins on my Kimbers are very tight fits in the frames, with a Warrior (ambi-safety) being the tighest. May be worthwhile to let some Kroil or other good penetrating solvent soak in for a while in case there's some rust involved.
