I am no fan of black plastic.. but its just so much uglier than it has to be. Its like they went out of their way to make it worse.

i do like diamond jim's remedy, and yes it is coyote ugly compared to the wood stocked 24's for sure

Take a 219/220 combo before that gawdawful thing!

Used to see Savage M24s in 222/20ga everywhere I went. Now
hardly ever.

That thing is so ugly it makes the 24F look good!

IMO the 24 went the way of the buggy whip because in the form of the model 24F it had become ugly, heavy, and expensive. The model 42 better be light and inexpensive or Savage will have accomplished nothing.

After handling the model 42 in St Louis yesterday, I will say - I like it! It is smaller & lighter than the 24F and the suggested retail price, if I recall correctly, was $489 which should make the actual street price significantly less than the $525 the 24F was going for.

Suggested retail is $459.

NEXT they'll put a lever on that one,,they can compeat for UGLY

Love my two model 24's. 22 mag/20 and 30-30/20. Probably 2 of my favorite firearms I own

Don't think I don't know what y'all are thinking here. The black stock is a deal breaker, but this shootin iron would be SWEET, in camo.

Just finished it. Still not a beauty queen winner,and my first time painting a rifle, but it's far less fugly.

Impressions so far:

Trigger: decent, i can work with it.
Front Sight: attrocious, the bead is tapered large to small from muzzle to aft and covers the whole bulls eye at 20 yards.
Rear Sight: Not horrible, but not great. I'm going to swap for an aftermarket peep.
22 Barrel: seems okay. with the horrid sights i was able to shoot pretty tight groups.
410 Barrel: Needs a choke. Shot an 18" pattern at 20yds with no6 hunting shot. I wouldn't shoot at a grouse or quail outside of 15 yards. I'm wondering if a gunsmith could do some sort of screw in choke.

Overall, i have to say i like it despite it's warts. It's just so light and handy and points really well. With improved sights and a little better range for the shotgun and i will love it.

I took my 7 year old daughter for her very first marksmanship session and it was perfect. I like how the action really slows everything down and makes for very deliberate movements.

I paid $360 at walmart. Cabelas had it for i think $420, but now has it on sale. I usually shop at smaller independent shops but nobody had one in.

Dude, no offense, but I wouldn't shoot a gun that ugly short of the apocalypse. You can always chase down a grouse with a stick...

Bring it on Guy! I need more fence posts. I'm finally up with Maddog and his tomato stakes. Bring on them 42 fence posts. That's the butt ugliest gun I've ever seen. You have of course your 2nd Amendment rights to buy what ever you want but that's just butt ugly.
