This weekend I put a few rounds through my Colts Cobra and a friends S&W Model 15 Combat Masterpiece. I had a model 15 years ago and never really shot it; what a shame. I think the Model 15 is really one of the best revolvers S&W has ever made. The one I was shooting this weekend was frighteningly accurate with HBWC loads; Im talking under 1 at 25 yards. The DA action was un-touched from the factory, and it was still rather smooth.
Shooting the model 15 just reminded me how nice revolvers are to shoot. The gun is more accurate than any handgun I currently own, and when youve fired your six, you dont have to play Wheres Waldo looking for your brass; thats nice. Plus theres the added advantage of the fact that you can get .38 Special ammo pretty much anywhere; even during ammo shortages. The M15 makes an outstanding target gun, and with modern +P loads, it's a very capable defensive handgun if needed. I think Im going to try to get me a S&W model 15 sometime this year.

Kevin,
I know what you mean about loving revolvers. I have many semi autos but my favorite shooter is a S&W model 1917 .45. There is nothing like a good, smooth trigger on a DA revolver. I think I like it because it feels like I am more involved in the shooting. That may not make sense but I am having a hard time articulating what I mean.

I have been a revolver fan since I purchased my first Hi Standard Nine, probably back in 1962 or so. It was a nine shot, double action and accurate way beyond my capability at the teme.I still really enjoy shooting my Smith K-22.
More often than not when I go to the range,I take my 686 Smith and K-22 over the other semis that I own. When in the saddle I carry either a Ruger Security Six, 4", .357, or SBH in 4&5/8", 44 mag. My carry gun is a J frame Smith,2" barrel .357.
Yea, I like revolvers.

I agree completely.

I just sold my last centerfire auto pistol. Now my only autos are a couple of. 22LRs.
All of my "serious" handguns are now revolvers.
Yup, I like revolvers too.

Kevin, when I went to get my Enhanced Carry, I carried my Mod 14 S&W. Went the full course, was high shooter, no malfunctions, no stovepipes or magazines falling out on the ground. Saw a bunch of pricey autos fail. One guy used a High Point 9mm. Worked perfect. Who'da thunk it?

I've got a coupla Model 15's around here somewheres...
And although I won't go so far as to say the Model 15 is the best S&W revolver, it's one of the best K-frame models. My 4" M15 belonged to an IDPA buddy's dad, and he shot it for 20+ years in local club Bullseye competition. He had put nothing but 148 gr wadcutters through it in that time, and the DA pull is smooth as glass.

I have a couple 'mint' Dan Wesson DA Revolvers ...
I've sold two great Colt DA Revolvers, one Ruger Super Blackhawk, and one S&W Snubnose - but I won't part with my Dan Wessons.
Also have matching Ruger SA revolvers, a Vaquero - 45 Colt, and a Single Six - 32 H&R Mag. Both these revolvers have Black Micarta Birdshead grips, and are blue / case colored.
Shooting these SA Rugers is pure JOY!

I'm just now starting to learn about the old Smiths. I bought a model 19-3 from Guns America that's in shipping now. Would the model 15 have been the .38 special version of the model 19? What I bought is a 19-3.

Sorta. The Model 19 is the .357 Magnum version of the Model 15.
The Model 15 is called the Combat Masterpiece The Model 19 is called the Combat Magnum The Model 686 is called the Distinguished Combat Magnum
There is only one Masterpiece.

CT beat me too it.
The M19 is the magnum version of the M15. The Model 66 is the stainless version of the Model 19.
The Model 686 is the stainless L-frame revolver that is IMHO the perfect S&W wheelgun of all time... 6, 7, or 8-round version!

Found a nice Model 15 at a local shop last week with a realistic price.
I had to fight against buying it, But 2 Model 10's and a Yugo Tokerev got added to the safe last month and my gun fund is pretty depleted.

I've owned two different 2" Model 15's. Both of them shot like rifles. One was nickel and the other blue. Somehow I let myself get talked out of both of them.
I try to drink less these days.

Some nice wheel guns here! My recent favorite for shooting is an old K-38 5 screw with original 5" barrel. It is in the process of being lettered by Roy Jinks. I believe this was a midwest LEO issue gun. But it sure does shoot! 6 rounds touching at 10yrds and headshots all day at 25. Suppose I can post an obligatory piece. Nice looking model 19
