I read the thread about modern pistols the other day, got me to thinking about some modern revolvers I have, this one was made in the mid 80's but it is as modern as today. [img:left] [/img] This is a Mdl. 36-6, 3 in. adjustable sights, 38 Spc. This was one of the S&W gun of the month deal where S&W would make a few thousand pieces of something unusual. This piece has shot a lot of 158 Gr. SWC's at about 800 fps., fun to shoot, soft on the hand. Me being a Clay Target shooter, I always had several jugs of SG power on hand, I would just find a load in the book for what ever powder was handy, an crank out a bunch, shoot and repeat. Today I have a turret set up for my Load Master that drops 4.2 Grs. of Trail Boss and 158 SWC This has been a great modern revolver, I hope to wear it out.

I doubt you'll wear it out, not shooting those moderate loads! And even if you do, you can send it back to S&W and they'll re-time it for you for peanuts.

Great little revolver, I never even knew they made them in a blued model 36, I've only seen or heard of the stainless 60.
Gunnery, gunnery, gunnery. Hit the target, all else is twaddle!

Ya Doc, I know that 800 FPS does not sound like much, but over the years I have shot a lot of "stuff" with that load and it is not to be taken lightly.
Shooters leave all kinds of junk at the range and I have to clean it all up, but not before I shoot one more hole in it, water bottles, boards, pieces of metal, you name it that Mdl. 36 has probably whacked some of it.
I have other pistol's that handle the heavy lifting, but this one is one anyone can shoot and have fun
doing it. And any time I haul it out in front of some gunny folks it is an conversation starter.

Remember those days well, every time I got a new distributor's catalog there would be some cool, interesting and too often irresistable S&W's in it... It is why I had to give up my FFL, Toooo much temptation.

I've got the stainless, M-60 version in .357. Hard on the shooter w/ full power .357 loads, but gets alot nicer with milder stuff. My old load of 6.5 grs. of Unique would shoot into an inch or less at 15 yds. with cheap Remington swagged 158 gr. SWC's. Those clocked at 900 fps. My current favorite is 7 grs. of Ramshot ZIP under a 158 gr. Hdy swagged SWC. Shoots the same zero as the full power CCI 158 gr. HP's and is alot nicer to live with. E

Claysetc.,
That is a new one to me! I've got its stainless twin, a 60-4 in .38 Spl. with a red ramp front sight and the hard rubber "banana" grip. I've got a holster, belt, speedloader rig that I carry it in when walking in the woods sometimes. It likes the Federal 129gr. Hydra-Shok load. Great little revolver but I prefer the looks of your blue steel model.

I didn't say this was a creampuff load... I said it was a moderate load, and that's good enough for most handgun purposes, including defense and hunting with the right bullet.

The gun of the month was enough to drive a gun nut to the poor house! They made all kinds of neat stuff, I still have two others, but most have slipped away. If I remember right they made about 4000 pieces of each gun, so mostly they were hand made guns , all I ever had shot very well. About the same time Browning came out with the Mdl. 12 shotguns, 20, 28, 410, in grade one and grade six, of coarse I had to have one of each (6) all with the same serial number, times were good, we worked lots of overtime, and I spent it wisely. How do I get rid of [img] thiniggies? [img:left] [/img]

Clays,
That thing is just as cute as it can be! Looks like someone left a 586 in the dryer too long!
I haven't felt the pull toward a J frame in a long time, but I like that.

I remember that gun wishing that S&W would bring it out in stainless and they did...then they copied the 2" version of the old 2" 36 Target in stainless...I bought a consecutively numbered pair..I still have one and one of my best friends has the other. Have also had the 60-4 .38 Special and 60-10 in .357 of which I now have two. One standard and one Lew Horton that was factory Mag-Na--Ported. They are my favorite guns for backpacking and anything around water like fishing and canoeing. The "Family" 60-10, -4, -1 Great gun in the blue...welcome aboard...! Bob
