glad I asked

When a country is well governed, poverty and a mean condition are something to be ashamed of. When a country is ill governed, riches and honors are something to be ashamed of

Quite the thread smile

It reminds me of a quote by our late President Ronald Reagan, when he said:

It isn't so much that liberals are ignorant. It's just that they know so many things that aren't so.

It seems that misconceptions become "fact" when repeated by magazine writers with no real personal experience. This then gets repeated over and over on the net and other places until it becomes fact I am guessing.

This seems in spite of the case when many more experienced members here at the Fire with actual professional experience have tried to point out the obvious.

I think it is like a policeman trying to reason with a drunkard though. It is pointless. There is no reason arguing with people who are incapable due to fragile egos, stupidity, or whatever reason of seeing the obvious. Life is too short.

There are also those here who have a habit of reading a bit into a thread, then researching a subject on google. They then post as if they are a subject matter expert. Walter Mitty types. Easy to spot when you have actual experience in the topic field.

The best is subjective. End Stop.

Well, Mackay, I'm sure it makes you feel superior to be so obscure, but it doesn't do much for clarity. I asked what you meant once, so I won't bother a second time.

I find these long thread very useful. In every case they bring out of the woodwork folks who add nothing to the conversation. Sometimes I have to go back and see if they have a history of uselessness, and other times it's immediately apparent. It really helps cut down the clutter on subsequent threads - "Ignore" works well for this!

Goodbye, Mackay.

Out of all the folks on this thread, you're ignoring the wrong one.

You're joking, right? If not, you might want to evaluate what criteria you utilize in determining folks' credibility.

If he didn't get the point, I doubt that he's much into self-evaluation either.

It's not the only ignore, thanks, just the latest. I've collected quite a crew of non-communicators in my ignore list over the years, and some of them are in this thread also.

You are ignoring someone with experience and knowledge it make zero sense.

Just because you didn't understand the answer and didn't like the reply. Ostriches stick their heads in the sand, not people

I got banned on another web site for a debate that happened on this site. That's a first

You just told me a lot more about you, than MS.

If you're still confused, read the last line of MS's post. A few times in needed.

No question about subjectivity, but the same can be said of almost every topic discussed on every gun forum. Generally speaking, people don't say, "Your question makes no sense, so let's not talk about it." Personally, as I posted, I don't agree that the snub is necessarily the best under all circumstances. Do you have reasons to believe someone can't "wrap their head around this truth?"

What I believe is we all make our choices based on our own perceptions, experience, and so on.

I also believe when one makes a public spectacle about putting someone of Mackay's caliber on their ignore list, it speaks volumes about them.

Have a great day.

Good point. We have different perceptions of his qualities. Thanks for the response.

jwp475, sorry it took so long to get back to you - I prefer to handle my discussions one at a time.

I prefer to deal with people who deal courteously with me. I perceived Mackay's response to be both discourteous and non-responsive. What good is experience and knowledge if it's an insult used to play to a crowd?

FreeMe, I take this as a comment made to someone else rather than to me directly, so I'm not responding to it. If I'm mistaken, please let me know.

George, sure; here are a few of them: discourtesy, ad hominem fallacies, straw man fallacies, lack clarity, and hiding behind generalities rather than addressing individuals directly.
