Anybody have any ideas on ways you can hang rifles on a wall besides using a gunrack? All the gunracks I have seen are bulky and take up to much eye attention when sitting back looking at your rifles across the room. I am looking for a way to hang them safely and strong enough on a wall but at the same time little notice will be given to the mounting ware. Special hooks? Dowels? Ideas? Pictures? Thanks

Not that I'd want mine on the wall, save for gramps old dbl that isn't shootable...
But we've used deer antlers at certain angles before. Kinda neat looking anyway.

Same wooden hangers as ga's post above. They are made by Outers, as I recall:

I did 1x2 cedar strips with 1/2" oak dowel drilled at a slight angle. Nice simple and screwed into the studs will hold up about anything.

I've found a Browning safe to be best.

I have my Great, Great Grandfather's BP shotgun that came across the great planes to Oregon, in a covered wagon.
I just stuck a cupple "not too long" nails in a log above the fireplace to display it.
Have a log home, so have lots of support for nails.

Forgot to add:
Had a gun "hanger" made of two horse shoes. One welded at 90 degreees so the gun was cradled in the shoes. Lost them in my "moves" over the years.

wife wanted to hang an old shotgun in the house. we used nails but it just didn't look right.
a light bulb went off in my head and i went and got 2 pieces of fired brass and slid them over the nails. looks awesome now.
maybe that will work?

maybe that will work? Exactly what I did to hang a couple of old Winchester lever actions. Brass head stamp matched the rifle. People would ask what caliber the rifles are and I would tell them...don't touch, read the case head stamp.

I hung a Sharps .50-140 over my livingroom woodstove once using hangers I bought at a craft show. They are twisted brass, look pretty good and have enough stand off from the wall to display the rifle properly.

How about some form of horse shoes? Decorative cabinet knobs on a length of dowel? Should be able to find girly to industrial at the local Lowes, Home Depot, Menards, or Ace Hardware.
