I finished a project I've been working on for several years. Action is a K98 Yugo capture, Wilson barrel, Timney trigger, Boyd forest camo stock, misc parts from my junk drawer. I sent the barreled action off to Mark Skaggs in Grants Pass Or who trued the bolt and reamed the action....$100 and he does excellent work. I finally finished bedding and floating the barrel. I polished and blued it in my buddies tank. I think I've got about $500 in the whole project(less the scope and mounts). Load data: 47.8 gr IMR 4064, 140 gr Sierra Game King, 2910'/sec. First 100 yard group in a 15MPH X wind. Regards, Rick.

Looks nice. I just loaded up some 284 win today. I still have a bunch of factory ammo, but looked for a reason. I call these my coyote, wolf & deer loads. Low likelihood of a wolf. I'll test them next time I go out. I did take a black bear 1.5 yrs ago with the 284, worked excellent.

I went with 120 grn Sierra game kings and IMR 4350. My 284 is an A-Bolt 'Micro-Medallion'.

My old .284 really liked 130 Speers and IMR-4350 or 150 Winchester power points and H-4831.

I really like the load choice and the stock looks great (i'm a big fan of laminates). What's it weigh out at Rick?

Mine likes the Speer 130bt and IMR4350 also. Got about 3100fps out of a 24 inch tube. Awesome round!

I have a FN 98 in 284 Win. that I got years ago in San Diego. I started out with the 154 gr. Inter-Lock. I have hunted it all over the west. It shoots so good, never tried anything else in it. Since I moved home to AR shooting long shots is a100 yds, still have it and shoot it every now & then. I don't quote loads, what I have shot with it never knew it wasn't a 7mm mag.

Rick,

You might want to try RL-17 which will give you a significant velocity gain over any other powder.

Over the decades loading for several 284s I evolved from win 760 and IMR 4350 to H4350 as the go to powder before RL-17 came along.

Ah yes , the original "short mag" , fine cartridge . There are no flys on the 98 action either ! Nice looking rifle , looks like she'll shoot well too .
