I have a gift coming and need you guys to help out if possible.

Getting a replacement rangefinder from Bushnell and can have my choice of the 800 or the 1000. Have only seen pictures of the 1000 and it is obviously quite a bit bigger. Have handled the 800 and it will easily fit in a jacket pocket.

The service rep told me the 1000 is accurate to 1500 yds on reflective targets, 1000 on non-reflective, such as game. Says the 800 is 936 reflective and 800 non.

Now it would sure be good to hear from someone who knows the real goods on this. I will be using this almost entirely for hunting so the smaller size is a big consideration. Having said that, if the smaller 800 is not accurate I will go for the 1000.

Thanks,
I don't have any first hand experience (yet) with it, but I'd be looking at the Leica 1200. Hopefully, a couple of the guys here will pitch in, but they seem to be hands down the way to go and a huge improvement over their 800 version.

Yukoner,

I have had the Nikon 800 yard compact for two years. As far as I can tell it is the same unit as the Bushnell with better service if you need it. Mine is great and the accuracy has checked out perfect against other rangefinders. I prefer this model because of its size. It easily fits in my fanny pack. That said, I am hearing great things about the Leica.

Good Hunting,

i own the 1000 yard bushnell and i wont exchange it for anything else. yes it's big and bulky and yes its optics are not as clear as leica, but it can read far objects a lot faster than leica. i like the built in protective case which helps alot when you are riding your atv here in texas. i owned the old 800 leica which was a piece of ....
i heard they fixed the problem now but i don't want to take my chances with leica again. i owned my bushnell for over 2 years and never had a problem with it. by the way don't expect alot for targets over 1100 yards unless it's a big barn or an oil rig

my 2 cents
good luck sambo

I have the 800 compact Bushnell, and like it ok. Little difficult to get a good picture and read the read out though.
I got to test drive the little Bushnell before they produced them and sent a two-thumbs-down... they were too small to hold and get a reading with and the battery cover was/is a cheesey little thing that constantly popped off.

I have the old style 800 and find it plenty good enough, just wish these guys would STOP telling me how much better the new Leica is... LOL

Sitks,

You owe it to yourself,to give the Leica a test spin. The new 1200LRF is an EXCELLENT piece of equipment...............

Hi Art!

Appreciate your reply. Glad to hear your experience with the old Bushnell 800, which I presume is larger.

I take it then that you would opt for the 1000 model? It certainly would be easy to hold with both hands.

Guess you heard I missed Kurt on the way home. Will pick up that stuff you gave him for me on the next trip.
Big Stick,

Thanks for your encouragement towards the Leica. I am sure it is a good unit, but the deal on this go round is that Bushnell is footing most of the bill so will give one of them a try.

Have you seen the Bushnell 1000? Know anyone who has used one. The chief enforcement officer at the Game Branch here has an 800, and I have tried it out. Certainly is a handy little thing. You can literally put in in a Mackinaw pocket.

BTW, the 270 Wby ended up with three different loads well over 3500 with 130 Hornady, Speer and X bullets. 150 A-Frames go just a tad over 3200. All are right around an inch at 100. Is mucho flatto.

When I was considering the rechamber job you said "Do it and shoot the wheels off it!" and not to worry about only having 24" of barrel to work with. You were right!

Sheep season is open two weeks from today. Got to get up to the range a few more times and double check everything again in this hot weather.

Yukoner,

Beings Bushy is footing much of the bill, this is what I would personally do. I'd get the Bushy 1000 and sell it,before I even used it,or unwrapped the packaging. I'd then take those funds and apply it towards the Leica 1200LRF. It is that good.

Oooohweeee 130's at 3500fps,is serious stuff! Good to hear that the rechambering met your expectations. Sheep aren't gonna like THAT combo.

Good luck.......................
I have the old style, large 800, and really like it.

My biggest fear is that Stick is likely correct... LOL

Maybe we'll bump into you next time through.

I bought the !000 a few weeks ago,I don't mind the size at all.Just playing with it out in the hills in the "non-reflective" mode I'v got readings out to 998 yds. I'v learned in the last couple weeks just how bad I am at estimating yardage out past 150-200 yds. Also I'v noticed a couple times, not being able to get a reading off a dull colored stump or whatever,if I switch to ZIP mode it picks it right up.

If you have not made the choice yet you may want to check their latest product. It is a 8X35 Binocular with a built in 999 yard range finder.
