How do you clean the mating bolt face surfaces in a Rem 700 action? I don't have a good technique and would like to learn how others successfully accomplish this task.

Sorry if I wasn't clear enough, I'm asking how to clean the region of the receiver where the bolt engages when closed.

Midway, Sinclair, and probably others make special tools for cleaning the lug raceways and the receiver face where they lock. I find the tools much easier than Q-Tips, rags, etc. that I used to use.

Some use dental cottons which fit into the handle as shown by RDFinn to wipe raceways and locking lug recesses. I guess a rolled up patch could work, too.
A patch over a .410 swab works well for wiping out the chamber on .30-06 and larger chambers. Might have to try a smaller swab, such as .30 cal, for .223 chamber. Whatever fits and lets the patch wipe out the chamber.

I use the Sinclair tool as well. Those are "dental bobs" that fit into it by the way, get them at your drug store.
