A few days ago, I was on the Ruger site. I noticed a photo of a scope mounted way forward on a No. 1. Novel to me as I can't get mine far enough back. I asked if the scope was a conventionally mounted Leupold scout scope. The owner said that it was and that it worked for him.
I went to the SWFA site to see what they have. They have two variables . The VX-R has an eye relief in the 6-8" range. That might work for you?
The Nikon omega at 5" is good, but not that far ahead of some Leupolds. Jack

Which 6X42 do you have ? The latest one, the FX3 has slightly less than the older M8's. The new FXII, 4X has even more than either of my 6X42's, or my M8, 4X. Provided you aren't far sighted as I am. Don't bother if you are. Turning the ocular out on the FXII, will cut down on the eye relief. Haven't tried the little 2.5X Ultralight, but it's suppose to have more. The VX3, 1.5-5X is pretty good too, at least at the lower magnifications. E

FX-II 2.5x20 is listed as having 4.9" of eye relief.
