bsa1917 and pintoguy,

I guess your bloody perfect, never made a mistake, that's why you're the two 'best at everything'

And I'm not German, I am an American and a veteran, I lived and hunted in Germany for over 20 years.

Continue being perfect and rude.

Of those you mention I'd go w/ the Marlin for sure. They have a great reputation for accuracy, a fantastic trigger for the price point, and Boyd's is now making replacement stocks for them.

Thank you for your service!

efw,

can you hunt with rifles in Michigan? I had a friend who lived there years ago, when he lived there he said they could only use muzzle loaders and shotguns, was that ever true?

You can use rifles in the Northern Lower Peninsula and the Upper Peninsula. The Southern Lower is shotgun/handgun/black powder territory.

If you want a CZ-550 in 6.5 go for it. My 550(.270) is my favorite hunting rifle.

Regarding you're first question, I don't know a whole lot about Marlin or the Ruger, but a friend of mine has an ATR in 7mm-08. Very accurate little rifle, his wife takes her deer pretty regularly with it. I know they aren't exactly enthusiastic about Mossberg on this site, but from what I've seen they make a pretty nice gun for the money.

Yep the lower third of the LP is shotgun/ML only but it is legal to use a center fire north of that.

I like pre-64's a lot.

I do believe that today, one can buy better, more accurate rifles. The old pre-64 was usually a good shooter, but better stuff is now available.

I know that sounds like heresy, but if you think about it, you may even agree... blush

I know you didn't list this one, but a Tikka T3 will give you everything you need.

I am not familiar with hunting in Germany, I suppose a 30-06 is more common there than before the war. Personally I would find a used classic Mauser in 8x57, or better yet in 9x57, or 9.3x57.

Just my opinion, good luck with your choice, and Thank You for Your Service to Our Country

Every used gun rack has a 30/06 rifle for sale. Just look until you can find yourself one you like in your price range

I have used the Tikka stainless in 6.5 Sweed very accurate and not too heavy

A used TC icon is super nice as well but heavier

Browning A-bolt

or like another member pointed out Wal-mart has Remington 700s pretty cheap

Also check out snipershide used firearms forums, you can find older 30-06 pretty cheap

I picked up a six digit (Made in 1966) Remingotn 700 in 30-06 for $300 last week.

Much can be found if you are patient and willing to look. I passed on two c series LA rem700's at the same gunshow for 350 or so as well.

I say a remington, but i'm biased

Sure is a purdy language. Even if you don't have a clue what it means. My sister was stationed in Germany for quite a spell. She picked up the lingo pretty well. Heck,I have trouble with english.
