Those 3-30 rounders were what he had left as i read it. I believe 154 is what they said...do you think they missed some or just inflated the number for grandiosity?

The end of this quote is the most ridiculous part of the article. Can they get any more biased while writing? In a top drawer of a filing cabinet, they found paper targets. In a duffel bag, they found ear and eye protection, binoculars, numerous paper targets and Lanza's NRA certificate. (his license to kill)

I don't see a math problem.
Your linked story makes more sense than the AP version.

I don't think they inflated anything. If all magazines had 30 rounds to start with, there is a potential of 7 missing rounds.
However, the 154 number is expended rounds inside the building. We know he gained access by firing some rounds. Those empty casings would be outside the building.

It's really a matter of how diligent the writer wished to be in accuracy and comprehension. 154 rounds is the "hook". If you don't use the available evidence to write a comprehensible story justifying the 154, you're only doing half the job.

There was some other strange stuff in the AP article: http://www.apnewsarchive.com/2013/Cache-of-weapons-found-in-home-of-Newtown-gunman,-shedding-new-light-on-massacre/id-fcc08a28eb9d4379be41bca852f525e2
Cache of weapons wasn't much, actually, the howler was the: "guns found at the home included a .323-caliber Enfield Albian bolt-action rifle, a .22-caliber Savage Mark II rifle, a BB gun and a .22-caliber Volcanic starter pistol."
What the heck is an Enfield Albian? WTF?

Just watched Fox News talking about it and sounds like Sheppard Smith is for more gun control. Harping about high percentage of public wanting universal background checks like that's the way to go. Will lead to registration and very high fee's to own guns in my opinion.

Funny, because now they're saying the AR wasn't used at all.
Also I love that they included that he had swords at all. God, the horror!

Must have been one helluva big glove compartment.... I have never tried a Honda Civic on but I didn't think, just from looking, that there was that much room in one of them. Must be all glove box.

What the heck is an Enfield Albian?
Plausible explanation from another forum is that the rifle is really a SMLE manufactured by Albion Pressed Steel Metal Co., Birmingham. The item on the search warrant is entered as: Item #14 - One Enfield Albian bolt rifle, .323 caliber, model no. 44MK1, SN HC22273ABut quite likely the caliber noted is wrong. There were two boxes of British .303 ammo noted on the warrant also.

simple math??? State's Attorney Stephen Sedensky says Adam Lanza killed all 26 victims inside Sandy Hook Elementary School with a Bushmaster .223..........
killed victims within 5 minutes..........
Sedensky said 154 spent .223 casings were recovered at the scene..........
He says Lanza had ....... three, 30-round magazines for the Bushmaster.
possible.... Not probable..... Doubtful they counted the one in the rifle,

I'm sure the "no AR was used" people are just totally blind sided by this revelation.

I didn't find that (" embellished added phrase") in the links I checked - and I purposely went to left leaning sources just to see. Nor did it appear in the link the OP supplied. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/mobileweb/2013/03/28/newtown-shooting-search-warrants_n_2970351.html?icid=maing-grid7%7Cmain5%7Cdl1%7Csec1_lnk3%26pLid%3D290517 http://www.nbcnews.com/id/51363438http://www.politico.com/story/2013/03/adam-lanza-mom-nra-certificates-89426.html?hp=r2and this from CNN might add some better understand on the number of magazines Attached to the rifle police found a 30-round capacity magazine that still had 14 bullets, Sedensky said, and a search of Lanza's body found that he was carrying more ammunition for the handguns as well as three more 30-round magazines for the Bushmaster, each fully loaded. "Located in the area of the shootings were six additional 30-round magazines," Sedensky said in his statement, three of them empty and the others holding 10, 11, and 13 rounds. Police found 154 spent .223 caliber casings at the school.
