Tried out my new Marbles tang site and it worked beautifully out to 100 yards with the last of my 190 grain silvertips. Then switched to 150 grain ammo from Reeds and had to hold almost 8 inches low at 100 yards with the elevation turned all the way down. Two questions: 1 Should I remove the blades off the original open rear sight so that I don't have to sight through it as well as the tang site. Looks like it would give faster target aquistion without the blades. 2. Should I be able to adjust the elevation on the tang site to be able to do at least a moon on the fence post sight picture at 100 yards with the 150 grain bullets. I know somebody on the forum has the answers.

I always get a bit dyslexic when it comes to sight adjustments, but I do know you move the rear sight in the direction you want your point of impact to go for windage. Sounds like you are shooting a .303. Yes, I would get the barrel sight completely out of the way. Either remove it or replace with a folder. You may need a taller front blade. Tang and receiver sights usually need higher front blades than what works with the barrel sight.

Can't add much to that.
Well stated.
In my experience:
Modern ammo shoots higher than the old stuff. Can't say why for sure, just an observation.

I had a new Marbles on my .250 a few years ago. It shot two feet high at 100 yards with 100-grainers. Marbles sent me an extra-short sight post, which helped a bit. Check with their customer service. If your elevation post is down all the way but there is still room around the sight disc for it to go lower, a shorter post may help. Or just shoot off all that 150-grain ammo and load it with heavier bullets, LOL!
Just wanted to add, Marbles had excellent customer service. I had stripped a mounting screw somehow; they sent me the sight post and two new screws, all free of charge, with instructions, the same day I e-mailed them. No questions asked, no proof of purchase, no delays. I was suitably impressed.

Marble's has good stuff but their recent M99 tang sight is GA ugly. I wouldn't use it as a hood ornament on my Chevy C20. By the way, the C20 is for sale.

With the cost of .303 Savage these days, it might be cheaper to buy a new rifle. Just kidding, let us know how it all comes out.

For using a tang sight on a rifle with a 26" barrel (given that you are at a minimum with the Tang sight)...
Sight radius = 31" Distance to target = 100yds (3600") Impact pt. = 8" low 3600/31 = 116.129 8/116.129 = .069"
You need to increase your front sight height by a minimum of 0.070". It works both ways, raise the front or lower the rear or a combination of the two.

thanks Rick. I'm hoping to come up with some 190 grain ammo so that I don't have to modify any more of the original stuff on the rifle.

Great deal unless you live in NY. And soon Connecticut. Gonna have to take a class and get a card to buy ammo there soon. And how many criminals do you think are gonna do that?

The propposed legislation requires a certificate to buy firearms and ammo. To get the certficate you have to go through an F.B.I. background check and be fingerprinted. Register all magazines with greater than 10 round capacity, can only load more than 10 rounds in a magazine in your home or at a gun range. No sale of high capacity mags after 12/31/13. Penalty for not registering magazines is a class D felony.More rifles defined as assualt rifles. There's a few other restrictions thrown in. Bill will be voted on tomorrow and is predicted to pass. More bullshit from clueless politicians.

Judging by the availability of ammo: most people have already acquired about a 25 year supply.
