I dont mind hunting in the heat but sleeping. Your tougher than I am. It does make finding predators easier!

quote=geedubya]No problem there 222 Rem. In the summer when its 105 degrees F in the shade at 7 PM and I'm varmint hunting, and sweating like a politician telling the truth, I'm usually in my "old white guy camo" which is a pair of crocs, a pair of shorts and a tee-shirt wrapped around my head like a turban to keep the sweat out of my eyes.

This goes to show that for foxes at least, you don't need cover scent. (Unless they thought I was a skunk)
There's no power or water at my lease so I hadn't had a bath or a shower for four days. It was late August or early September. It had got up to 116 the day before. This afternoon I think it was 107 when I left about 6:00 PM to go make a few stands and call for grey's.

Nailed three in about 15 minutes of calling. Recovered two. One was in a pretty thick cactus patch. Crocs aren't the appropriate footwear for stomping cactus.

Gentlemen,(and I use the term loosely)
I'm going to call it a day. Enjoyed it.
Boxer/Stick/Larry will be along soon to enlighten us and I want to have my loins girded (so to speak), so I'll
I'll leave you with this humorous tidbit.

The Seven Dwarfs in Rome

The seven dwarfs are in Rome and they go on a tour of the city. After a while they go to the Vatican and meet the pope.
Grumpy, for once, seems to have a lot to say; he keeps asking the pontiff questions about the church, and in particular, nuns.
"Your Holiness, do you have any really short nuns?"
"No, my son, all our nuns are at least five feet tall."
"Are you sure? I mean, you wouldn't have any nuns that are, say, about my height? Maybe a little shorter?"
"I'm afraid not. Why do you ask?"
"No reason." Pause. "Positive? Nobody in a habit that's about three feet tall, two and a half feet tall?"
"I'm sure."
"Okay."
Grumpy looks dejected at this news, and the pope wonders why. So he listens to the dwarfs as they leave the building.
"What'd he say? What'd he say?" chant the other six dwarfs.
Grumpy says, "He said they don't have any."
And the other six start chanting, "Grumpy fcuked a penguin! Grumpy fcuked a penguin! Grumpy fcuked a penguin!"....

Who'da thunk it.

So be careful out there. Like "the Dude" the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence" abide.

There was a concert happening in a large, eastern US city, many years ago, one with a large "Irish" population, it was to include some of the great Roman Catholic liturgical music, as the RC Church is the very basis of "Western" civilization. So, some nuns and priests were given permission by the Archbishop to attend.

As the recital hall filled, a few elderly nuns, still in the traditional habits we who were schooled by these wonderful ladies recall with great fondness, came in and quietly sat down.

Just after them, two large, rather grubby young men came in and took seats just behind Sister Mary Michael, Sister Mary John of the Cross and Sister Mary Immaculata. They began, as drunken louts of all sorts oftimes will, to make loud and disgusting comments about the Holy Church and nuns and priests.

This continued for several minutes and they began to complain about all the Catholics in the crowd and loudly commented that they wished that they could be in a venue where there were no Catholics. The comments grew increasingly vile and people sitting nearby looked at the elderly sweet nuns with some consternaton and pity.

Suddenly, Sister Mary Michael, a 94 year old, 4 ft.9 inch tall lady spoke out in her cultured and courteous tone and said, "Excuse me, sir, I understand that you do not care for the presence of we Catholics in this auditorium?"

The largest and most vulgar of the louts looked at Sister Mary Michael and snarled, "No, I wish I could live where there were none of you f**king Catholics!", upon which the gentle voice of the demure old nun replied with "Well, then, sir, why don't you go to Hell, as there are no Catholics there"...........

Cub:

I ended up on both sides of the 257 Roberts...

6mm Rem on a long action with a fast twist...
6.5 x 57 on a long action.. ( a Roberts necked up to 6.5 mm, or a 6mm Rem necked up) but with similar bullet weights it will out do a 25/06 any day of the week, and use less powder to do so, just the same as the 6mm Rem will do with the 240 Weatherby.. but the long action makes all the difference...

a buddy built a 243 AI on a long action and had it throated to seat long bullet out to magazine length...and had the same results...one in 7 twist like mine had...

Gee,

Keep hoppin' fences and pounding pavement to the Park, then feel free to frost same with your windage adjustable "carnage" from the Pettin' Zoo.

I appreciate the humor,as you obliviously extoll the "merits" of them "pursuits".

Laffin'!

'holton,

You never miss a chance to Whine,do you.

Looking forward to the next one and please include pics of the Mascara stained tears streaming your face,as you stand in defiance and proclaim in your high-pitched nasal voice..."Pretend is "real" [bleep]!".

You sappy Do Nothing [bleep] is a [bleep] hoot!

Bless your heart.

RDW,

The PhotoShop effort to polish the turd, was funny schit!

That was mean.

kute',

Must be a Union Job,if you can do it for 21yrs and confuse a Spruce for a Cedar.(grin)

That particular Spruce hung out and away, leaving no opportunity to face it...so it were a straight swing job less a face,to flop it in the only lay I had. Video is actually purty [bleep] good and I reckon I might should upload it some day,as I know it'd bait more than a [bleep] few hooks.

In fairness,I prolly do have a wee bit of familiarity with Kansas Red Cedar.

[Linked Image]

Fact is,I've seen me sand bag.(grin)

Enjoyed the Cult Joke,if only because there ain't a beeger cult than Catholicism...nor a beeger [bleep] joke.

Well played.

Eddy,

I'm always happy to grant slack on the rope and let folks really "prove" what they "know".

Cracks me the [bleep] up,that there are them who is [bleep] stupid enough to try.

Bless their hearts.

Shefire,

I enjoy your Imagination, nearly as much as you do.

Here's hoping you are able to keep your Excuse Factory running 24/7...if only because of how badly you need it.

Laffin'!

STW,

Intellestingly, that tree cleared right the [bleep] up and was a high grade sonofabitch, with but a modest longbutt.

Undoubtedly, there was Japs sword fightin' over who was gonna get it.

dube',

[bleep] man, don't go splashin' ALL the bottom-feeders outta the creek,as it takes some time to punt all the dumb [bleep] back into the drink.(grin)

The poor/dumb whining Do Nothing [bleep],wouldn't make it out of the driveway in a crummy, before the tears and Hissy Fits started. Very [bleep] humorous, that they've Imagined and Pretended sooooooooooo long...that they truly do "think" they've a first [bleep] clue.

EPIC [bleep] humor!

'Groove,

Shefire can only do the best she can, with what incredibly [bleep] little she has to work with and puts more than a whole [bleep] buncha frosting on it...due the fact she's oblivious to how [bleep] incredibly stupid she is.

Watch yourself,or she'll Pretend on you.

Laffin'!

WSM,

REALLY diggin' your whine! You attack yourself by unleashing your [bleep] Stupidity,Pretend and Imagination(in no particular order).

The funniest part is,you KNOW what a Do Nothing [bleep] you really are and feebly attempt to Whine that Reality away.

GOOD [bleep] luck on that happening!

Wow +P+.

222'

Hardly "evolution",that clueless dumbphuckers say stupid schit and back same up with Imagination and Pretend.

Reality ain't for everybody,as they so eloquently quantify.

Laffin'!

GreatWapoozy,

As per always...lookin' forward to your version of Bear Hunting.

Laffin'!

Will this beat the 6.5x55 Scandahoovian, in a 23" tube as I have this gorgeous Brno 21 action and as posted above many smallbore big game rifles,so, would prefer something other than another .280 or .270. What do ya think, I am inclined to put Euro. rounds into these Euro. actions and American-British rounds into P-64s and, if I could ever FIND one and had some $$$$ for such a build, a Remmy 720 made into a .404J.

I never did like the 6mm/243, but for no good reason other than personal preference. I did originally have that 257 built with the thought of later doing the AI treatment to it. That never happened, nor will.

Currently having a Model Seven done in 250AI. Something I can take pics of with my cheapo point & shoot and brag about from the couch. Hard charger and all, eh?

Dewey,

I put the 6.5 x 57 together just due to brass availability and consistency... 6mm Rem, 257 Roberts or 7 x 57 can be used...
I still own several 6.5 x 55s, both in rebarreled, American factory and Mauser made..

I admit my biggest motivation was when I read years ago in Hornady reload manuals saying they were hardly seen on the game fields of North American.. so I had to have one just to listen to people say "WTH is that????"...

Been trying to master them online things for years. Does it rate two LOLs, or just one really looong LMFAO??

Have one 243, hardly ever use it. Have been killin' chit with assorted 25-06s since the late 70s. Close enuf for this old sumbitch.

Have seen some 6mm Rems work pretty well.

I guess a better label for said threads would be "unhijackable." grin
