I remember a sunset that looked just like that many years ago. My dad and I were returning home after a day of dove hunting east of the California Bay Area and the colors were so eerie it looked like nuclear bomb had just exploded over San Francisco.

Cant come close to topping that one either...my minds eye has one, but I didnt have the equipment to capture it...
Sunset in Namibia one evening, clouds had turned the background sky into a purple, the sun setting at my back put that nice evening glow on 13 giraffes on a ridge above me...
Glowing giraffes on a field of deep purple...

This is a sample of my feeble attempts to capture nature's glory. Pics of sunrise were taken from Scott's mountain near Lowman Id, looking east toward the Sawtooth range. The glorious and immense size of this country before the introduction of machines and paved roads is a small indication of the hardiness and character of our pioneers.
People who choose to brew up their own storms bitch loudest about the rain.

Here's the best sunset I've photographed and saved. Sorry for the grainy pic but was scanned from a 35mm print. It's a sunset over the Alaska Range with the Cook Inlet in the foreground. It was a typical summer sunset at my buddy's cabin and nothing really out of the ordinary other than timing the cargo ship heading into Anchorage.

Only competition I have is locked in my brain. I was fishing alone on the Warrior River is west central Alabama when one of the frequent afternoon summer rainstorms came thru. When I came out from under the bridge I'd used for a little cover the system had moved on the east of me as a dark purple mass. The sun now in it's low arc from the west had a clear shot at the backside of all that moisture in the air. An absolutely incredible prism effect in the form of a full TRIPPLE wall to wall rainbow was the result. When I say full tripple I mean just that. A dark green tree covered hillside ending at water's edge as foreground for the darkest of dark purple clouds imprinted with the most beautiful lines of repeating color. It is the only time I've ever seen multiple arcs with intense full color spectrum thru the entire arc. Back then I normally carried my camera bag with me on any outdoor excursions but you know the rest of the story; that day it was at home. As a second choice to photographing God's unique art I simply stopped the boat in mid-channel and enjoyed His work until it faded away. Never to be forgotten.

This is the evening before, pretty close to the same spot. And another one of the first sunset but after the intensity died down some.
