Does anyone have a 6.5 x55 mod 96 barrel they would consider trading for a Mauser 98 action, could add cash.

Marty: sounds like you are restoring a 96 swedish. I got 23 1/2 in 1938 new barrels and 1894 carbine new barrels both in the white. I also have 1910 mexican mauser long barrels but in 7x57. Any type 99 7.7 mm parts or guns? thanks, Mel Chung

It is a swede, the guy that customized it long long ago cut the barrel back quite a ways, still legal, & then years in a closet, the barrel looks like a sooty sewer pipe & it almost shoots minute of deer @ 25 yards. The 98 I have is an 8 x 57 & that barrel is worse, stock split etc... Looked like it was used to but stroke dozerpillers or breaking rocks, so I tore it down to barreled action for trading material, all the #s match, but the barrel will make somebody a good tent peg. What do you want for the 23.5? & how much boot?

That minute of deer is after trying soaking, scrubbing, de-rust & about 20 hours of minor frustration to date.

Marty: who made the 98 mauser, sr or lr? German would be nice. Chinese, lets not go there : ) I have enough of them already...I appreciate your colorful description of the swede and mauser. The 23.5 new in the white barrel to be traded straight across once i get more details on your 98? Pardon my ignorance but Hawaii residents live relatively sheltered lives, what is "boot"? shipping?, 1000 once fired 223 cases? or my famous Molokai Mel's bread recipe? PM me if possible. Will give e mail add there. Mahalo, Mel Ps: need the replacement barrel installed, headspaced and blued? Can be done for extra...

The 98 went yesterday, but I'm still interested in one of the new barrels. Boot is something over & above to make a deal work. Actually the bread recipient sounds kind of interesting because I'm a Dutch Oven bread maker, I'll trade recipes for free. What's your cash price, & I'll either make you a cash offer or cash & something neat you might not have readily obtainable on your end. I can do the installation over here, I can use my network of gun guys, what I may have on hand, or pick up something you want. I have a 500 mile radius +- to draw from & a couple more shows in the next month to search. We never did find a match for the proof marks on that 98 so I can't even guess accurately on it's origination, but based on the action's finish I will guess Eastern Block somewhere ?? Not German or Chinese, no consequence now that it is turned into stuff I can use.

Mel, I will PM you as soon as I figure out how, everybody I have dealt with on the Fire, I already had email addresses for. I'm sure it is within my computer skills, but I'm going to ask the guy on the first line. Then I'll get to you ASAP
