buckfever1;

If I were to settle on the 250gr AB for a moose hunt in Newfoundland, this is how I would sight it (This assumes 50*F, +1000 ft elevation -- and that depends where you will be hunting, but Newfoundland has some rather high elevations where moose are found -- and an MV of 2650 fps):

Zero @ 250 with sights at +1.6"

MV = 2650/3898 ft-lbs
50 = 2563/3646 ft-lbs/+1.57 traj.
100= 2478/3408 ft-lbs/+3.40 "
150= 2395/3183 ft-lbs/+3.82 "
200= 2313/2969 ft-lbs/+2.73 "
250= 2233/2767 ft-lbs/+0.00 "
300= 2154/2575 ft-lbs/-4.47 "
350= 2077/2394 ft-lbs/-10.8 "
400= 2001/2223 ft-lbs/-19.2 "

The above is adequate for a bull moose to 400 yards.

Hope this helps.

And, if I may add (not to change your mind on bullet choice), but I would use the 286 Nos. Part. at 2500 -2550 fps.

I sighted mine at 175 yds, which gives an even 1.5" high at a hundred. I use the turret to walk me out to 500 yds, about max for a one turn CDS. This load runs 1,900 fps at 450 yds.

That's with the 250 NAB at 2,650 fps with JB's load of 60.5 gr. Varget.

My AHR CZ likes this load. The last three shot group was .39".

I'll have to check my data at home and get back with you.

I was jumping around .02". My AHR/CZ has a shorter chamber than my Mauser/Shilen (which is on the way to becoming a 6.5x55). So an arbitrary COAL value may not be that meaningful. I would suggest measuring your chamber COAL for each bullet, touching the leades and backing off .02". You can tweak the COAL as you develop loads.

It seems to me, these big bullets aren't as COAL sensitive as high ogive Amax and VLD bullets in the smaller calibers.

Between those two great rifles, I think the decision comes down to the magazine.

Do you want to take a rifle with a fixed magazine or a clip?

God luck on your trip.

And as Dogzapper said, use the rifle you can shoot better with, and on all sorts of field targets.
