I am at a loss-too many options.
Just got a new Remington 700 tactical 5R .223. Use will be target shooting and varmints.
Went with a Leupold Mark 4 15moa base and I am going to run the Mark 4 rings or TPS rings.
Trying to decide on a scope and wanting to keep it under $1000. Plan on twisting turrets and using a rangefinder.
Would I be better off using a ballistic reticle in scopes under $1000 (for reliability). Have had good luck with the Zeiss Z800 and Swarovski BRH on my larger caliber hunting rifles.
One scope I have been considering is the Leupold VX3 EFR 6.5x20x40 with fine duplex. Or I may spring for the VX3 6.5x20x50 with the side focus and fine duplex.
I have also been debating glass bedding the recoil lug area on this gun (HS precision stock) just for good measure.
Any opinions appreciated.

I think you're thinking right. I've got 2 VX3's 6.5-20 with the VH reticle, long range (30mm tube) side focus, target knobs.
I may send them in and have them change the reticle to TMR

Get the TPS rings, the Mk4 are overpriced.

I'd get a zeiss HD5 5-25x50 and TPS rings. Twist a turret, far more accurate than ballistic reticles.
