Friends, I just won my first F-Class match. We shot this morning and I turned in a 198 10x off my belly, for the win. Those new reduced 10`s make those 9`s easy to hit, they are 1" smaller than the SR-3 that the bench shooters use. I`m still quite happy, Tim.

I am very pleased for you. There are died in the wool hunters who scoff at paper punchers, but in competition, when trying to put the fifth in the bughole, or finish a perfect string, I get the same nerves as I do when shooting at a big buck, maybe worse.

You have every right to be proud.

Tim,

Congrats on your win! If it was this w/e I am sure you had some good breezes to deal with.

Man you had a great weekend, the NWTF show, and then a win at the range, that is hard to beat. Congrats on the shooting, and good to talk to you this weekend.

Thanks to all for the positive input. There was a good breeze, I thought steady, but my first 9 was right when another shooter said it died momentarily. I had dialed in dead on. The first 10 shots after the 5 sighters was 7 x`s and 3, 10`s, I was feeling great, I dropped the 2 points my next on horizontal, each side of the x. My group of the best 19 shots was 2 1/2" verticle. Tell me if this is acceptable. My missing the condition on the wind are what made me drop the 2 points. Lots to learn, but it sure is fun.......

We shot at a MR-10 ? target with a new F-Class paster which changes the scoring by 1 point all the way out. The x is 3" and the 10 ring is 6" the original 10 ring becomes the 9 and such all the way out. The 10 and x both count 10 the higher x count being the tie breaker.

Those reduced targets are pretty darned tough! We switched to the MR-63 thinking that the X and 10 ring would be about the same size as what the new F-Class target is gonna be... forgot the 9 ring is one heck of a lot smaller... i.e. 8's would have been 9's, 7's and 6's would have been 8's...

I've very glad they didn't adopt the MR-63 target for the 600yd F-Class target. That'd really separate the men from the boys!

198-10X is pretty darned good on the reduced target. What did you score for the other two relays?

How'd you like shooting 'belly benchrest'?

Good shooting!

Monte

P.S. where'd you guys get the F-Class center already? Didn't think the target companies had them printed up yet?

There was a problem from the get-go on match day, the target frames were missing from the target shed, we had a after match called workday to paste targets to some cardboard backing. The match was called to be a 20 shot match due to equipment trouble. F-Class is a 20 shot match anywho, but we shoot with some Hi-Power guys that had a 60 shot match scheduled.

Guess I'm missin' why you fellows don't just shoot alongside the HP guys in their Prone match? F-Class *IS* High Power, in most parts of the country, and according to the NRA Competitive Shooting department. Slap some smaller target centers on the HP targets and go to town!

We do shoot together, our 20 round match is first, then we pull for the HP guys. They stay and shoot 40 more.

Okay... so why don't you just shoot the full match along with them? Seems like torture to just shoot 20 rounds instead of the whole match!

Now that's a new one!

Well, we'll have to keep workin' on ya. First we got you off the bench, shooting from the ground. Next we'll have to get ya shooting a full match.

Think of those poor barrel makers like Krieger and Broughton and Pac-Nor... whaddya want, your barrel to last for ever? Shouldn't have picked such a hot caliber then

Seriously, though. It won't kill it (at least not all at once) to have more than twenty rounds thru it (this ain't Benchrest) between cleanings, and it's a lot more fun to shoot a full match anyways.

Guess I might see things a bit differently if we had more local matches (I'm workin' on that, pulling the local accuracy nuts out of the woodwork), but most of the matches I go to are at least 2 hours away, some close to 4, so between paying for gas, food, and the entry fee... while I don't expect to even win back my entry fee, much less my lunch money if I were to win the whole thing... I do want to get as much trigger time for my money as I can. Like I said, if you guys are having these matches regularly in your local area... the incentive might not be there.

Still, good shooting any-which-way you slice it. I hope you continue to shoot more and more; it only helps you get better.
