mic the end of the barrel an dthen look at a barrel maker's website. They'll tell you what the maximum bore is for a given taper.

From looking at the Douglas website they show the Remington sporter contour as being .660" at the muzzle of all of their "Remington Sporter" contours. By my math that would leave .151" of metal. I think that would be thick enough, but that is an uneducated guess only. Anyone have a factory 35 Whelen they can measure?

I would rebarrel it if you are talking about a standard Barrel wieght, I have yet to see one shoot one hole groups on a recut barrel. I would not open a Vamit barrel to a bigger bore either to good of trading stock. What gun ation is this for, might find a take off like new or new barrel in 35 you could pick up at a fair price. Still not a custum barrel, but in most cases it will get the job done. Talk to your local gunsmith about what barrels could be used. Like a Rem. barrel threads are big enough to clean up to fit a Win. Wont go the other way. Good Luck.

My first post here. I would like to comment on this further; I have a 308 win. take off in my safe as we speak, but drilled and tapped for sights. My rifle is a rem 700 adl in 22-250 that I want to change out to 358 win.But like wildone wonder if this is feasable? Sorry if I hijacked this thread. My appologies to all.

The standard adl / bdl barrel diameter is .030 larger than the custom barrel my brother has on his .358, and it's just fine.
That said you would probably end up with better results with a new tube installed.

The Rem. sporter contour is about .590 at the muzzle. A .660 is a bit over the #4 contour which is usually used for the .375 H&H. E
