I believe I have confirmed my Quigley load.
75 grs old E 1.5, br2 primer, Jamison brass, muzzleloader specialty drylubed felt wad .446 rubberized cork wad, powder compressed to seat the short tank buster into the case about .4. 8lb seth cole patch treated with jojoba oil after the bullet is loaded.
Long story short 10 out of 12 rounds into the upper right quadrant of the 4-8 steel target from 800 yds, blowtube only for fouling control.. Also the .434 accurate bullet shot well, only using 1 wet and 1 dry between shots. But at this time it's not going to replace the KIK 1.5 match load.
Very happy.

Tried some loads with the 2f Olde, but the jury is still out on that, but the cases are sure "clean" , now just need to see if I can find some real accuracy with the 2f.
I can see another order of Olde Eysnford in the not too distant future

My .44/77 burned some Olde E 2F today, 75 grains behind the 400 grain tapered paper patch. It's doing real well. I didn't put it to the test like you did. After my last shooting where it was hitting a bit to the left, I noticed the front sight was a bit to the right. That was corrected and I just wanted to check the rifle's windage today. All is good. Now I'll try for more distance. My load used 75 grains of 2F, already mentioned, then a card wad, a cookie of BPC Lube, another card wad, and then the bullet with the bullet's base seated about .375" below the mouth of the case. Powder is compressed to about the bottom of the case neck. Ignition by Federal large pistol primers. Like you said, the cases stay pretty clean.

Sounds good Mike. We had a bugger of a time with the wind, when trying to test the .434 bullets, it was doing 180 degree swaps, and apparently blowing about twice as hard somewhere between the firing point and the target as it was at our firing position.
But the big thing is I proved out a load that "should" make it possible to shoot the Quigley match with paper patch and only need to wipe the bore out between targets. I don't think that could of happened with any other powder, at least I haven't be able to get there with other powders.

Looks like today was the day for the .44-77 smile
I also picked up the 77 today and did the 3 shot ladder test using the 1.5 and 2f E powder starting at 66 grains and ending at 84 gr.
I been ignoring the .44-77 and just working with the .44-90 bn and the .44-100 st. the .44-100 favors the 1.5 E and the .44-77 shows preference to the 1.5.

I might add that the 75 grains of 2F Olde E sends the 400 grain paper patch across the Chrony at an average 1360 fps from my gun's 28" barrel. When I try that with the 1.5 F Olde E I'll see how it compares. The load with 2F is quite comfortable to shoot and I'm going to concentrate on it a while longer, at least until after our little local BPC match that is just two weeks away.

303 that's pretty close to what I clocked 80 grs of KIK 1.5 at with the 400's last year.

I'll do more shooting on Wednesday, hoping to make some final sight adjustments. Maybe then I'll switch back to KIK 1.5 just to see if or how much difference there is in the hitting. Maybe a speed check too.

I don't know if I'll get any more shooting done before the Alliance shoot or not. I'ld probably best just put my efforts into getting enough ammo loaded for that one. Then can go back to diddlin with finding the sweet spot with the Olde E, and be ready to give it a test run at the Quigley.
Altho I think I'll load enough of the short tankbuster Olde E to do the offhand , and a bit of sighting in at Alliance.

Shot a few Old E loads yesterday under the BACO $ bullet. At 200 yds. the 45/70 managed to get 10 shots on target, 2.5" vert. by 1.5" horz. with 5 shots touchin'.
Compression was 0.240" with 58 gr. of 1.5 Old E, which is compared to 68 gr. of 1.5 Swiss measure setting, volumne.

If it ever quits rainin', I'll get more shootin' in!

Jim how did the group size compare with Swiss, and did you have to change your sight settings?

Don,

My testing with the same bullet and 1.5 Swiss was at 300 yards, which produced several 3"+- groups. Sight settings for Old E was a couple of min. lt. @ 200.
