Looking for a windproof fleece jacket and they seem to be rare.

The Browning Hell's Canyon line is said to be a "quiet softshell" suitable for hunting. Is there such a thing as a quiet softshell?

Windproof, fleece and softshell are three different things. There are plenty of windproof fleeces (check out gore's windstopper). Then there is a softshell, which works best as an outerlayer as opposed to a fleece that works best as a midlayer.

To me soft shells are very quiet compared to a hard shell. They can make a little noise, but you'd be better served focusing on the wind that any amount of noise you're making if you're within earshot.

Wanted: Vintage Remington or Winchester hats, patches, shirts. PM me if you have something.

Wind Pro fleece or Browning's Genesis fleece work pretty darn well for my needs. Looking for one in a green, khaki, or brown solid color. Seem to be hard to find.

Could order up a Wild Things Wind Pro hoody in "Rifle green", but I don't much care for hoods.

I have a Predator Performance fleece jacket which I really like. However, in my mind, the problem with fleece and wind-stopper is the fact that the insulation (fleece) is outside the wind-stopper layer. A better solution, to me, is a fleece jacket (or other insulating layer) under a wind proof soft shell. My current combo is a Kuiu DCS Guide Jacket with a Cabelas Switzer Prima-Loft pull over underneath. Very warm and wind proof and less bulk than what is required using fleece to stay warm in windy conditions.

Edit: and yes, the Kuiu Guide jacket is very quiet in my opinion.

My Kuiu guide jacket is probably the quietest softshell that I've owned, and I've owned quite a few.

Quiet enough I'll wear it archery hunting this fall without having any worries.

Sounds like (no pun intended) there are a few quiet soft shells available.

If you change your mind on hoodies, I suggest one of these:

http://melanzana.com/catalog/produc...?osCsid=b1d95d6b3d02824045d4f9948831c470

I was looking for breathable, quiet and windproof and found these. I've got one in orange (pumpkin) and brown (I forget). I don't like the membrane windblock fleece because it doesn't breathe. This stuff does. And if it's too windy for windpro, I go to a hard shell--noise isn't a problem at that point.

Good folks. Gun friendly. (They sponsor a biathalon team.) They even shortened the sleeves on my second one for free.

Here is a windproof, waterproof gore-tex shell jacket that works well for me. It is quiet and works great for layering. http://www.basspro.com/RedHead-Pro-Light-GORETEX-Camo-Rain-Jacket/product/10225329/
