My wife brought Mick home for the animal shelter almost exactly seven years ago. As near as we could figure he had spent his first six years tied under a fur tree and ignored. Pictch had dripped on him and his coat was a wreck. He has large sours that needed treated and the shelter had shaved him to get him healed. He would statr running and not come back so the second time my wife bailed him out ofd the shelter she made a 20 foot lead with a snap on each end. If Mick went out she was on the other end. It took a year but he figured out where home was and that the lady at the other end of the lead was OK. From then on he was all you could ask for in a farm dog and he was my wife's protectorate and constant companion. If I was looking for her I would look for Mick and she would be behind whatever door he was guarding. The new pup came when Mick was getting pretty old and slowing down. He had a bout with a bad toe and had to have it removed. It was the big "C". He recovered and spent a happy month showing the pup the ropes and was not afraid to let the pup know when it crossed the line. Then he started slowing down again. Last night during his sleep he stopped. You all know the hole in my heart this morning. As I searched the hundreds of farm pictures in my Photobucket I was amazed to find he was in so many. After morning chores in a wet field. "I wish theis cat would go away" Helping Mom in the greenhouse. Waiting for her to hurry up on a moning walk in his woods Helping me paint the cabin. Hwas an equal oppertunity porch lounger. After a hard day of farming.

So sorry to hear this.
If they weren't such amazing souls, they wouldn't leave such a big hole.
I wouldn't have it any other way.
Condolences to you and the Mrs.

Beautiful dog sir..love that last pic. At one time I had one that looked just like yours - obtained from a dog shelter and we named her Sheila.
Dogs are very special pets. RIP Mick... And sincere condolences to you and the family..

Sorry to hear this too Scott. You did a noble thing making a good life for that dog. Do it again, when you feel the time is right....

My sympathies Scott. It is a shame that our beloved dogs have such a short life span. I appreciate the way you and your wife have the heart to rescue pets and give them a good life to make up for the bad one they had before.

The best dog that we ever had after helping us raise two daughters and a son died (apologetically) in my arms. The word hole doesn't begin to describe the effect on the heart.
"Good enough" isn't.

I am sorry to hear this, Scott. They do leave big holes when they go.

I hate these threads because they cause pain all over again...but that's life and just the way it is.
So sorry you lost such a good friend.

Sorry for your loss. Looks like he was a fine companion. IT was good that he had a loving home for the final years of his life.
