Do any of you worldly gents have any info on composting terlets? The inlaws are into their mid 80's and is quite a hike to the privy for them. We have been wondering if there are any good ones out there that you don't have to have power or solar to use them. Where we have our cabins is totally off the grid (good thing). You see a lot of them on the net, but just wondering if anybody is using one and what brand recommend?

I have used a Sun-Mar. They make a non electric for light use. Ours was electric but we used it full time.

Thanks! Just the two of them pretty much every weekend until it gets too cold for them. Then perhaps a great grandchild mixed in here and there. No real major usage. Need to check (or not) with Oregon and see how bad they will beat me up as far as permitting. I have used a Sun-Mar. They make a non electric for light use. Ours was electric but we used it full time.

Do any of you worldly gents have any info on composting terlets? I have to increase the font size on this laptop. Thought it said composing terlets and I thought that was a pretty nice thought to write some poetry for them.

The problem with composting is no action happens when the temperature in the composting chamber goes below 65F.

Do they start smelling after a while or do they vent real good so there is no smell.
I have been looking at them for a while but was wondering about the above question

Absolutely no smell in the house, even less than normal flush toilets. There is a natural draft through the compost chamber that will even keep farts from pealing the paint off the bathroom walls.
The electric work better than the non electric but both work well. Our electric even worked when the weather as below zero for a month at a time and we only had wood heat in an uninsulated trailer.
