I think yall should be arguing the merits of the .510 whisper versus the 25-06. It is likely that the 25/06 is just close enough to the .270 to suck at all things ballistic wink

Laffin....25-06 does suck. As a matter of fact the deer on left by the ugly guy was killed by one. Get this the deer on right was the long haired(not no more) young fellas first deer...270 kill....lol

I went the archery route for a long time. Lots of fun in areas with decent deer densities. A real challenge locally. The mosquitoes and high temps make it almost too much of a good thing, almost smile
They just screwed up our archery season. Now on private land you can start rifle hunting the day that archery season opens. The guns in the woods are going to make for a lot of dry hunts with the bow.

I love bow hunting but the early season and bugs do suck. Pretty cool to slam a arrow through a deers lungs but if given the choice I'd likely opt for toting a rifle. Much easier. I mostly just hunt mornings during archery season. On a good day I shoot a deer quarter it up and toss in the cooler. Then go ride horses. On a bad day I don't kill a deer then go ride horses....lol.

Tried that bow hunting in the late 80's and just could not get over the feeling of "if I had a rifle."

Sounds like there are no "bad days" as long as you're riding your horses. cool

Bowhunting is tough in open country. My bud moved to Cody WY from Michigan and was absolutely pissed the first couple of years figuring out that low crawling, using the terrain as cover bit. I'm not one for hanging in a tree like a Christmas ornament and hunt from the ground but, a tree every two to three feet makes it much easier than what you boys out west have to deal with. All the deer (or any big game for that matter) that I have shot in the past decade has been within fifty yards and probably closer. Without a doubt all could have been taken with my recurve but, it's tree infested here.

Keep your powder dry and stay frosty my friends.
