No, you don't want a "night scope". You want good glass in a day optic and a forward rail that you can mount a universal night sight IN FRONT of your day optic.

What would be the reason for not having the night vision scope as it would be a day scope also and it has a detachable illuminator. Just wondering what the pros and cons are as I have used night vision sights in the military which where impressive.

Most likely, what you used in the military was Gen 3 or 4, these are Gen 1, and you do get what you pay for with these. Most Gen 1 tech is OK with a decent amount of moon and starlight in open terrian, but they usually don't work out past 100 meters IME.

If you are in wooded areas with night shadows, expect even less. The illuminaters help, but not sure to what level.

Newest tech is a green wide-beam laser running with your day optic. Supposed to light the target out to a couple hundred meters and not spook game. Haven't tried one yet, but may get one this year for hogs.

Maybe you know of something new that I'm not aware of. We used to have to wait until dusk to zero our PVS-4's, they were Gen II. You didn't even think about taking the caps off with that thing turned on in the daylight.

In the late 90's we had an 8x Day/Night scope for our M24's, it weighed about five pounds and was universally hated.

I have a dedicated NV gen III scope rig, but not the ATN stuff.
I do know day sight in with cover closed and actual night sighting in makes a difference since all pin holes are not 100% aligned and your POA will be off as much as 4-6" like mine was.

Did I make you cry......boooo hooo, life goes on.
