What are your opinions of this gun for hunting deer/antelope and possibly elk.

The 270 is a great round for all the game you mentioned. I have no experience with the Mossberg 100 ATR.

It wouldn't be my first choice, nor even my tenth in regards to the rifle.
Cartridge is fine.

Cartridge is fine. +1 The rifle sucks. I'd run a Handi rifle or a Savage Edge/Axis long before that one.

Sorry I haven't hunted elk however I would say that if the ATR is in your price range, and it feels ok to you, why not give it a go?
It only needs to put one good round into about a 2.5 moa target area to be an effective outfit for your intended purpose.
For the right deal (and God knows they can be hard to come by here) I would own one.

What are your opinions of this gun for hunting deer/antelope and possibly elk. The round will work, the rifle may not.. Bring a backup with ya..

I like the way my Stevens kill stuff. Have three (2 - .270's) and all are great shooters. Several years have proved them dependable. Not pretty, but effective.
