Found one of these .22's at a local pawn shop. Very nice looking rifle, excellent wood, about 90%. Was wondering how good a rifle are they? Do any of you have one? Am thinking it would be good to keep in the truck. They say $350 is their bottom dollar.

Tough, accurate & reliable. Prices seems about where they have been running, better if the stock & forearm are checkered.

The 552 is one of the very few .22 autoloaders that will function with either Shorts or Long Rifles.

I bought one that was on consignment at a GS ($225). Some one had done some home gunsmithing on it which caused some issues I hope I've cleared up.

Is an older modle 552 with a 23inch barrel.(thats why I bought it) I've fired hi-speed and standard velocity ammo through it and also Shorts without problems. What surprised me was it cycled the CCI Quiet rounds(710fps) without any problem.

I've got an older one that I like. The newer ones look good but have a high comb stock that IMO makes it difficult to use the open sights. The action on 552s doesn't lock open on the last shot. If you get one have Remington send you an owners manual or get one on line. It's good to have for a take down cleaning. $350s as high as I would go for a good used 552. There's a lot of them out there.
