Have a question for Model 43 owners. Does the bolt on this gun have a locking lug or lugs besides the bolt handle root locking into a hardened notch on the receiver?
I've never closely examined a Model 43 (ones I've found have always been too rich for my blood, or in lousy shape). Wondered if they have an extra "safety lug" like their main competitor, the Savage 23 series, or do they function just like an oversized .22 rifle with the root of the bolt handle doing all the locking?
Was Mike Armstrong. Got logged off; couldn't log back on. RE-registered my old call sign, Mesa. FNG. Again. Mike Armstrong

Mesa, There is a locking lug opposite the bolt handle root lug, it is dual lugs back at handle vs breech end of bolt as in the mod 70. I have had one in 218 bee for 35+ years and dearly love the gun, back when it was my work gun on a cattle ranch I bought bricks of 500 every year, Yellow super X Winchester, I also ran 1 brick of rem green and white box thru mine. great little guns . Ive saved all my brass but have always run factory ammo. they were called 'poor mans mod 70'. Kevins gunshop in Tall. FL bought mine from the GA fish and game, it had been taken from a deer poacher on quail plantation below Thomasville, mine was a late 5 digit with A prefix that was factory D & T , I put a 2x7 leupold on it day one.... very best
