I bought a Tikka T3 in a 300 WSM. So far I'm really happy with the performance. It shoots great with federal factory ammunition, but I want to get the best performance possible out of it. I've loaded some 180 gr accubonds with 67 grains of RL19. So far I haven't found anything wrong with that load, but I was reading the Alliant manual and they suggest RL17 for short magnum cartridges. It has a similar burn speed to imr4350. Any suggestions???

RL 17 is my favorite powder for both my 270 wsm and 300 wsm. As far as the 300 wsm goes I have tried IMR 4831, RL 19 and RL 17, RL 17 comes out on top in both accuracy and speed.

RL-17 was fast for me, but I never hit really great accuracy. I had good luck with H4350 under 180's (partitions, horndays and accubonds) and 168TTSXs

I have to second noKnees recommendation of H 4350 for use in the 300WSM.

I have loaded ammo for six different 300 WSM rifles, a load that consists of the following has always been outstanding:

case: Winchester
primer: Fed 215M
powder: Near max load H 4350
Bullet: Barnes 168 grain TSX

Thanks for the advice. I've always shot Accubond's in all of my rifles, but I've had a few people recently recommend Barnes TSX. I'll give them a try. Most of my shots are between 300 and 600 yards, and the accubonds have a great ballistic coefficient. How do the Barnes bullets perform at those distances?

H 4831 sc worked very well with 180 gr Partitions in two different 300 WSM's I worked with. It was the max load in Nosler's manual and clocked around 2925fps in each of the Browning A Bolts with the 23" barrel.

66.6 (+/-) RE17 and a 168 TTSX for 3100 at a less-than-max load with GREAT accuracy.

There are several powders that will work well in the 300 WSM.The one powder that works the best for me is Winchester 760.H-414 is the same powder, both are produced by Hodgdon Powder.I'm loading 64.5grs of Win.760 with a 165gr Hornady Interbond,COL is 2.850,velocity is 3125fps,1" groups @ 200yds.

In responce to JB1980, the 168 grain Barnes has perfomed nicely at just about any range, so far.

Due to health and financial situations I have not shot anything but coyotes and wild hogs with the 300 WSM.

However, my buddies have used the listed load here in the US and in New Zealand, Africa, and Spain. I have heard no complaints of any sort. Not sure of the ranges envolved, probably not 600 yards. (especially the guys who shot plains game with them in Africa As far as I know, none of the bullets were recovered.

Wish I could be of more help.

I've only used them to 511 Yds but got PERFECT performance from that sample of one. That was a 127 LRX from a .260 Rem, though. The 168 TTSX from the WSM has been perfect on 5 deer, but only out to 300y so far. Most of my shots are 150-300yds.

I've reloaded about 7 different bullets for my 300WSM and take them out to range for tryout. Can't wait to see how the 208 Amax do.

I'm gonna go with Freddy's suggestion. Sounds like he's had great results. I shoot a Tikka T3 with a 24.3 inch barrel. I've yet to shoot a rifle out of the box with better accuracy. I'm excited to try the new load. I'll be posting results soon!!

Sounds like I just need to start at 64 gr and work my way up to 66.5 and find out which load groups best out of my rifle.

Yes, you might even start a little lower because every rifle is different. I have a friend that max's out at 63 grains of RL17 in his Rem 700 he was getting just over 3000 fps and I hit 3100 fps at 65 grains but started getting a slightly stiff bolt at 66 grains and my accuracy was better at 65 in my Winchester mod 70 SS. Primers and brass do make a difference as well. I'm using Win brass and fed lg rifle mag match primers which gave me about 20 fps ave over cci's. Some guys have had good luck using just lg rifle primers. I really don't think you will have a problem finding the sweet spot in your Tikka.

I have a Tikka T3 in a 338 win mag and it shoots lights out.
