Pre-64 in excellent condition will bring a lot of money, well over $1000 and possibly a lot more. This is a post-64 and it is $1300...

The guy is asking over $1200.00 that don't mean its worth that much.no one is bidding on it. it's only worth what someone will pay for it. not what some nut wants...

Point well taken -- I was using the auction as a guide to value for a somewhat rare caliber. Assuming that the rifle is in 100% condition, which it is not, Blue Book shows $1300 (not that Blue Book isn't way off sometimes) for a '64 or later .284. Given that the rifle in question is supposedly a 1963 things would get pricey very quickly -- I took a quick look and found no other .284 88's on auction. Somewhere out there is someone who wants it and is willing to pay...

FYI this is not really relevant to this thread since it makes no difference in pricing, the post 64 88 is improved mechanically over the pre 64 and is a better rifle. Do not know the serial number where the designs diverge, but if it has pressed checering, it is the good one.

Relevant only if you pay any attention to the values given in Blue Book -- the early (1963 and back) 88 rifles show a substantial premium to the later ones...
Sold on GB...

I sold a 98% pre 64 .284 for 1K 10 years ago! The pre 64 .284 is a rare one considering 63 was the year they came out in the 88. The .358 will probably sell easier and for more money but nice pre 64 88 .284,s will sell for top dollar in the right market.

About $500. But being the nice guy I am, I'll give you $600 for it Seriously though, they are nice guns. I have a 1957 in 308 that will shoot 3/4" groups, sometimes even better, with cheap federal ammo---2MG

If so, why isn't there different parts # for pre and post 64 guns? Around here, a pre -64 is worth around $150.00 more than a post 64, assuming like condition and calibre.

I sold my Pre-64 88 in 284 for a little over 1400 a few years ago, it wasn't 100%, but probably about 85%.

Thanks

In the case of 88s the "pre-64 legend" apparently overwhelms the actuality which is that the later guns are better !!

But early or late they all have bad triggers.
