I just passed on some hot cor 180 grain flat based round nose bullets because I am thinking the 303 and 30/30 savage could use spire points. Am I wrong? I have lever evolution, Imr 4350, Imr 3031, and H4895 was thinking of using 180 grain Hornady interlocks, and some 160 grain ftx made for the 308 marlin express. Any advice would be welcome at this stage! Thanks!

If you use too pointy a bullet in the 303, the ogive will be below the case mouth. That can cause feeding trouble and makes for some pretty ugly ammo too.

don't waste your time dicking with pointy bullets unless you just like to waste time. BTDT - I use Speer 170 hot cores. They shoot so well I never felt the need for 180s.

+1 on what Mike said. I thought the new hornady 150grn SST, made especially for the 300 sav, its shorter overall. Would be a great bullet. NO, it has to be seated to deeply to make it a proposition.

Ok I will pick up the round nose thanks! What is the col and the maximum length of the brass? I understand that one can use 30/30 load data.

The flat nosed 170 grain bullets designed for the 30-30 work about as good as anything as others have previously "pointed" out.

No pun intended cool

Yep, the spire bullets are too long and push too far into the case and affect powder capacity. Also had to try it.. if you were doing single shot it might be worth it, you can almost always load the COAL much longer than specs since you don't have to worry about the magazine. Round Nose/Flat nose are the way to go, and I use the 30-30 data - just start low and work your way up.
