We just completed our local festival for 3 days. I had an opportunity to meet with Waddie Mitchell and introduce him on stage, also Riders in the Sky. Waddie is one of the great poets on Earth and it is very inspriring to be around people like him. Any cowboy poetry fans around here?

Yes. We have it every year in Lewistown, MT. In fact Elko's get together is only one year older the ours. We missed last years, but Rifers in the Sky were here the year before. Man those guys are good. Last was Baxter Black, but like I said we missed it. He was here 3 or 4 years ago.

Saddly, unless the show is being advertised we hear nothing of the cowboy poets. Also, I don't know of many of them but for Baxter and a few others whom I can't recall their names though

Ahhhh Waddie Mitchell... love to hear his stuff. Good Stuff!.

There ain't nothin' like the feeling that you get down deep inside, as you trod out in the mornin' when you've hired out to ride.
Your broncs enthusiastic and the air is crisp and new.....

Bax was here last Th nite. I love his joke about the young wife whose husband was out on the wagon for 6 weeks. She was excited for his return and asked "what should I wear?" Baxter's answer-
Barbeque Sauce!

Sons of the San Joaquin, Waddie Mitchell, Don Edwards, Baxter Black, and some old ones like H H Knibbs. The list goes on.
My Dad is really into it. Hoping the moderators don't mind I'll give him a plug. Check out romancing the west.org. He is one of the producers(Butch Martin) The music traces from the 1700's through modern rock.
He also has his own website.

I did some poems at open mic, not the big stage. I really like Omar Barker, Knibbs, Bruce Kiskadan, Badger Clark and Robert Service.

Modern poets- Waddie, Joel Nelson, Paul Zarzyski, Gail Steiger, Ross Knox and Georgie Sicking. Many have become friends over the years in Elko. All poetry fans need to come to Elko as it is the Super Bowl of cowboy poetry.
