So do outfitters in NM and/or Az.
get an allotment of tags to guide for?
A fair number of hunters from up here have gone down there...

No elk authorizations on my moms place.

The LO elk authorizations are a screwed up mess. Prey you guys never get them if you don't already.

PS, she could play the system and get some.

They have a landowner lottery type deal here and yes it's a joke.
You can't sell the tag, but you can charge a trespass fee.....
Even though where the buyer will be hunting the game is not on your land.

So are the outfitters buying LO tags?
or they get 10% of all tags?
Or how the [bleep] do they offer out of stater's hunts?

This is what NMGF says in the 2013-2014 proclaimation: 84% to NM residents. 10% to residents & non-resident who contract with a registered NM Outfitter. 6% to non-residents who want do-it-your self. This is the public draw hunts.

The LO tags SLM is talking about means you pay money and do not worry about the draw, these hunts are on private land.

Yes,the Outfitters buy LO tags and pass that cost to the purchaser of the hunt.

Go to the NMDGF website, go to hunting, then look under E-Plus and SCR and you'll see a list by unit of everyone that receives authorizations. Under SCR you'll see we give unit wide tags to land owners with as little as one acre.

In the better units a Mature Bull or an either sex bow authorization go for $3500 +\-. Then you still have to buy your lic.

Let me see if I'm correct SLM. Lets say I own 1 acre of land in 16A,I could get a unit wide Bull/Cow elk tag correct?

Yes, you sign up under Small Contributing Ranch and they have a draw every year for each unit to see which type authorization you will receive. Once you draw a MB authorization you then have to wait until everyone has drawn the same MB.

Another screwy part is,if you have property in say unit 15,you could receive an authorization for unit 9.

When they figure harvest objectives these authorizations come off the top and the public draw tags get what's left.

Ya, the whole SCR and unit wide authorization system needs to be eliminated/re-done.
