I guess I'm officially an old luddite now. I went to wal-mart to buy a real AM/FM radio for my office and they don't sell those apparently anymore except for an alarm clock.

Went to Radio Shack and the guy didn't even know what the hell I was talking about. I was like AM/FM and he still didn't know. Long story short Radio Shack doesn't sell them either only things to play an Ipod thru.

Blah.

I bought two, AM FM with NOAA weather and another with AM FM clock.

They have others with just AM FM.

The older I get, the more I dislike radio.

Guy at Radio Shack said they had internet radio players (well no schit I have a computer that will do that). I really blew his mind when I told him believe it not there are places in the world without internet (I have internet at the office but that's not the point). Guy looked at me like I was going to the moon.

I've got a Sansui receiver I'm going to take, I'll have to get the shop to build a bracket for it since it weighs about 75 pounds but it's damn near bulletproof and sounds great from the late 70's/early 80's. They must be getting popular again because I see them on ebay now for $500 and up, and they are selling.

I have tube amps here at the house. I have a 1watt tube amp for my Ipod just for the hell of it. Not something I want to stick in my office tho for a variety of reasons.

I try to listen to radio while driving my pick-up. Oldies station used to be pretty good. Now the oldie music their playing is from the '80s. '80s, heck that isn't old.

I used to listen to a lot of shortwave back in the day. Unfortunately, shortwave pickin's are kinda slim now that BBC, Radio Netherlands, Deutche Welle, and other english-language broadcasts have ceased being beamed to America.
By the way, why is there no such thing as a "Country Oldies" station? I mean all the way back to the Hank Williams/Webb Pierce era.

Siriusly grin missing my satellite radio down here. I hate radio other than CKUA from Alberta that I have streamed in wherever I have lived abroad since leaving Canada.

Last time I looked the Dollar Stores carried an Am/FM tape recorder that ran on either batteries or 110 volt. Cord could be removed to play on batteries and they would last a long time. I keep one in all my inclosed deer stands along with headphones so I can listen to football if there is a game on. Never had a deer notice even when they were directly under me. miles

Sangean , grundig, etron, c crane ($$),the crane works well but there are some that are better with out the $$ , the etron is the same as grundig but cheaper- the name is what u are buying! I'am a AM radio junkie .... and most of are stations are <10000 watts and hundreds of miles away. the Sangean I have now really sucks in the stations shocked AM RAIDO stands for "active mine ".... FM RAIDO stands for "f*gggot mutheryucker"! blush tune that dial> u better be thinking !

I got a nice little Sony from Sears a year or two back. About $20 AM/FM - works great has very good battery life and reception.

I found myself in a similar situation a year or so ago when I tried to find a compact radio for use with headphones. The type you might use when walking or working out. Like you said, it's mostly Ipod this and MP3 that.

Grab one of these. Don't think they make an AM/FM radio any more but this has AM/FM plus Short Wave bands.

Or here

Price is fair too.
