Several of the goofy bastards was better than 20,000hrs deep in long line experience. It's part of the career progression. First you're wild and crazy, then you get a little paranoid, next is goofy. Whacky follows close. I probably flew with some of them whackos.

Maybe so? Coupla years ago, an old buzzard (retired USMCR officer) of my acquaintence got to yakkin' about his days in The Corps and choppers. I mentioned a feller I know who'd just retired from USCG, also a chopper pilot of long standing. Turned out they'd attended the same school many (many) years before that. But the old Jarhead wasn't amused when I told him Coast Guard Charlie must've been the better lad, since he retired as an Admiral and Bob The Marine had retired as a Major.
