Kevins post got me to wondering, who do you think has the best singing voice. Not necessarily you favorite singer or group but best voice. My votes are female- Alison Krauss male- Vern Gozdon

HoundGirl : yes, that's Vern Gosden. Find the "Chisled in Stone" CD. If that one don't make you cry, you're to far gone....

Another vote for Patsy Cline.
I think Sinatra is pretty smooth, but NOBODY can stay with Jerry Vale. Even though I don't really like Vale's music, his voice blows me away. "Al Di La"
I'm actually a child of the 60's & 70's, but seems to me nobody made it in the 40's & 50's unless they had a great voice and could really sing...unlike today.

Just a voice then it's Luciano Pavaratti. His signature song is Nessun Dorma. Have you heard the soprano Sissel who sings popular music in english?

Many on here are undoubtedly too young to be familiar with Jim Reeves,... but that man had a voice! And he delivered it in such a cavalier fashion.
Male country vocalists today are always whining about one damned thing or another. Some woman leaves them and they're ready to jump offa bridge, er somethin'.
Jim Reeves didn't fall into that. Some woman start slippin' around on him, he'd give her one phone call,.... tell her to just spell it out. If it's one way, that's fine,... if it's not, well,... Jim Reeves had other business to attend to,.. and he wouldn't have his time wasted.
Yeah, he'd croon at her a bit to help her remember what it was that she was going to lose if she didn't get her act together,.. but that was it. He let he know up front, if she was lookin' for a butt kissin' she could just keep looking. There was none of that to be coming from Jim Reeves,... uh-uh.
He'll Have To Go
Put your sweet lips a little closer to the phone Let's pretend that we're together all alone I'll tell the man to turn the juke box way down low And you can tell your friend there with you he'll have to go Whisper to me tell me do you love me true Or is he holding you the way I do Though love is blind make up your mind I've got to know Should I hang up or will you tell him he'll have to go
You can't say the words I want to hear While you're with another man Do you want me answer yes or no Darlin' I will understand
Put your sweet lips a little closer to the phone Let's pretend that we're together all alone I'll tell the man to turn the juke box way down low And you can tell your friend there with you he'll have to go

I heard Frank Sinatra interviewed many years ago, when he was still in his prime, and the interviewer asked him the same question.
Sinatra said then that Tony Bennett "had the best set of pipes" in the business.
Although no longer possessing the range he once had, Bennett is still one of the best.

Martina McBride!!
I don't really listen to male singers for their voice that much, but Kenny Chesney is the first that comes to mind.
