Suspect he would've been expelled within the first hour of a Dale Carnegie course, but then I'm just using my own experience as an example?

Any time every time I offend someone and they suggest I might benefit from such retraining efforts, I tell them none would have me.

ggedubya,

Not many know what Pellucidarians are anymore, much less about turning left and following your heart.

I've quoted that one on occasion myself....

Hey Hey, B

ever heard the story of Pat and Mike looking for a bear cub....

The story of Pat and Mike.

When I was just a youngun, my grandpa used to tell Pat an Mike stories.

One time he told me about Pat and Mike going hunting for a bear cub.

They got up early one morning and went out into the woods to search for a cub. They figured if they found the right hollow tree, there might just be a cub there. They looked for a good while. Finally found the exact tree they were looking for. Pat stayed on the ground to watch for the mama bear. Mike clambered up the tree to see if there were any cubs in the hollow. Sure enough, there was a cub. So Mike climbs up and over and down into the hollow. He yells down that hes got the cub. In a few seconds he hollers again. Hey Pat, what darkened da hole. Pat, sounding out of breath and much closer than Mike would have thought yells back. If the tail hold slips, youll see what darkened the hole.

Well at the risk of the "tale" hold slipping............

Went looking for a bear a while back

Looked high

Looked hither

And thither

And yes Mabel, wild bears do [bleep] in the

Talk about being caught up a tree

[Linked Image]

It was a mercy killing.

In reflection, even the bear seemed happy about it.

Seems his bottom incisors were completey broken off on both sides. He could catch stuff but could bearly eat it. Prolly would not have made it through the winter. It was a mercy killin

Anyway, as I mentioned previously,

Im here,

Youre there.

Ill grin

Hope you can bear it.

You got a club foot bear.

I got one that needed dentures

Geedub, you have played this thread very well. Seafire should take notes.

Where is your lease located? When I can I get down to our family farm outside of Brady in central Texas. Was down there this weekend clearing brush.

And, to keep it topic related, I've shot a deer or two with a 243. Have yet to shoot anything with a 25-06, but it's on my bucket list.

Boxer - I've got an honest question for you. Always see the photos of your fishin' trips, with a rifle along. I'd guess the rifle is because there are things that just need to be shot, time to time, such as a belligerent bear.

Normally when I'm fishing, up in Alaska too, I carry a stainless magnum revolver, and am fairly good with it. It's a lot easier to fish with the revolver on my belt than with a rifle slung over the shoulder, at least for me.

You choose the rifle over the revolver for your fishin' trips in bear country? Why?

Thanks, Guy

First deer I ever had mounted. IIRC it was two days before my birthday in mid December. We were hunting in Junction, Texas. I had a borrowed bolt action 243. IIRC it was 1970 and I was turning 19. It was over 90 degrees that day in December. Big fat guy had me walking the draws while he stayed up high. Figured I'd flush the deer and he could get a shot and did not have to walk so much. I flushed this buck and it took off like a streak. He shot and missed. I figured I was good to go. Shot him on a dead run (the deer, not me) at about 75 yds. He was quartering away. Hit him in the spine. He dug dirt with his antlers and did an endo. I was pumped. I'd seen turkey the day before, but the turkey were too far for a shotgun. The men in camp didn't believe I could shoot and hit a turkey with a rifle. After that chip shot on the deer, I had no problem carrying a rifle. Can't remember if I've shot a deer with a 243 Win. since

Fast forward near 40 years and here is one I took just before the end of legal shooting hours December 26th of that year. He made the mistake of stepping out on a game trail I was watching. Nailed him with my Cooper Jackson Game rifle in 25-06 Rem. @ +/- 80 yds, using 110 gr. Accubonds. He ran about 50 yds and piled up. Kept the rack, for a European. At this stage of the game I've BTDT on mounts.

That's a good looking deer and a beautiful rifle. That stock has some nice character to it. I also dig that Merkel single shot above. Some day I'll get one, until then it's just the Ruger No.1 RSI.
