'25 is pretty slow,in that application,IMHO.

That's '22 Country...................

I tried R-25 in my 300WM, 24" bbl. I didn't seem to get consistent velocity with 180s or 200s, and I assumed R-25 was a tad too slow. R-22 (76grs) and R-19 (74grs) give me the best velocity results at @3100-3150fps with 180s. Both will do it, but the R-19 was my guns fave for accuracy.

By the way, don't get blinders on about powder selection. My Rem M700 Classic 300WM is a testiment to bbl harmonics. I loaded test loads with R-19 and R-22 on the same day. Same brass, bullet and primers, seating depth, same everything but the powder. Each load chrony's at an average velocity of @3150 and there wasn't 25fps difference in the two. Yet the R-22 groups were twice the size of those with R-19, with the R-19 yielding under 3/4" groups at 100yds consitently. R-22, R-19, H4831, N160, N165 would all be good powders to try with 180s in the 300 Winnie.

I shoot a load of 82 gr RL25, fed 215, horn interlock 180 flat base. max load. 3150 fps. accurate. Ruger 77 old tang model. Start around 74-75 gr with the 180 accubond. my 82 gr load is slightly compressed. I've shot this load in 90 plus weather and was ok. your mileage may vary. start way lower because that accubond is a long bullet with long bearing surface. Reach max load much sooner probably.

Be really careful with Re22--there are some "hot" lots of that stuff floating around. I just found out I must have one. Loaded up some 168tsx's with 77.5 re 22 and went to the range. They came out of the barrel screaming at 3330!! Believe it or not no pressure signs like hard bolt lift or ejector marks. Primers just slightly loose. Be careful working with that darn RE22...don't know why they can't be more consistant than that!

Kraky111,
Same here.77 grs. RL-22 ,3340 fps, very good group-in the .3's.Called Barnes and they advised to back off.I have had excellent accuracy using 22,but it is very inconsistant for me.Have switched to Hodgdon.

Jim,

I find R-22 inconsistent if used behind lighter for caliber bullets. It likes pressure to burn consistently.

I've loaded 75.5grs. RE22 with Hornady 178 and 180s, WLRM primers and Win. brass. Very accurate in my friends Sako. Amaxs shoot in the 4s, Interlocks just slightly bigger groups. J
