I goofed when I sent my rifle to get rebarreled to 223AI. The smith did good work, but I didn't do my homework. I got a 1-8 twist, 24" SS Douglas #4, fluted, but in my haste, I didn't ask about freebore.
Any ways, I would like to shoot 75's too, since that is why I went with a 1-8.
I can pull the barrel and send it without the action, if this makes things easier. Who has a throat reamer or whatever to fix this for me. I may have the barrel shortened to 22" also.
Thanks

Seat a 75 to the lands and see where the OAL ends up. Good chance you'll be fine as is.

Malm does excellent work, I can attest to it. He put a barrel on my 243 and I would have him do more work in the future.

I may have jumped the gun.
I assumed since the 50 and 60 Vmax were seated as deep as they were that the 75 would be buried, without realizing how much taper was on the boat-tail of these 75's. I haven't loaded any of the 75's for this rifle and just made a dummy round.
Doing a down and dirty, load an unprimed case with a 75 and seating about .100" then, chambering and running the bolt home, ejecting, and measuring with a verneer, I get an OAL of 2.446" and doing the same with a 50 gives me 2,285". I'll have to do a magazine mod on this Vanguard to fit the 75's,
What is the collective opinion for this cartridge and OAL, 2.450", 2.500", something else?

We've been telling people that for years but no one listens I guess. People assume you need a long throat for the 75gr Amax but it ain't so.

2.43" - 2.49" with A-max is good to go for flexibility. Like Steelhead says....
Now with even more aplomb
