So I got my new Burris spotting scope yesterday. The first thing that I noticed was that it's made in China. I was very disappointed to see that. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" /> Then I read the warranty card, what a joke! For thoes that haven't read it it states, "You can be confident that the optic you've purchased is built to the most exacting standards, so you can count on it every time you use it. In fact, we're so confident in the craftsmanship of this product that we back it with a full one-year warranty against workmanship and materials." Yipeee Skipeee. Color me unimpressed. I have better waranties on my flyrods and if there is anything that will break at some point during it's lifetime it's a fly rod. The optics on it are ok. Not Leupold or Zeiss quality but not their prices either.

Is this the model you bought? Or the more powerful model?

Burris Landmark Compact Spotting Scope 12-24x 50mm Black

Review:
I compared this scope with a 12-50 Winchester, collapsible Bushnell and a compact Leupold costing $350. This one wins hands down. Field of view is larger than Bushnell and much brighter than Winchester. Leupold has very prominent skew at the edges of the field of view, so it is totally out of the competition. I use it as replacement for binocs as it is lighter and lets me count points on a buck when my 10x42 binocs don't help.

This is one outstanding spotting scope. I have a Winchester compact that I will now be giving away. This scope is all quality, optics compare with my Leica (which is to large to carry around). Dollar for dollar this is the most satisfying buy I have made in some time. I also got the large window mount with it which has a quick release and also is of high quality. Thanks to Midway for offering high quality at low prices. If you don't have one...GET ONE!!!

Review:
An excellent value for the money. Optics are brilliant, clear, and equal or exceed those of scopes costing much more. As good as my Leupold scope, which cost twice the price. Bought the Burris to use as a light backpack scope and it excells in that application. Very compact and light weight with performance qualities that will surprise you for relatively inexpensive optics. Overall quality of this product is excellent and a true bargain for the price. Only drawback is that eye relief is short at the highest power setting, but not severe enough to cause real discomfort or viewing problems.

The Burris compact scope that I purchased, is an extremely handy tool. At 8.5 inches long, I will be able to carry it in any hunting and shooting trips that I go on. The optics are as clear as the Nikon scopes that I use on my rifles, so I am able to see my hits and misses on the range up to 400yds. Another feature that is very handy is the focus setting which is on the top right of the unit. This makes for very easy and handy focusing. With Burris quality, and its compact size, it will be with me on most of my hunting and shooting trips for many years to come. Eric Marleau Forest Lake, Minnesota

This is the one that I got. I realize that it got good reviews and I'm sure that it will work just fine. It's just so funny that they try to make it sound like the warranty is something special when it's not.

I guess for the price a guy can't complain too much. You figure a spotting scope maybe isn't put through as much abuse as a scope might be, so unless it fogs up, it should last you a long time. J

What do you expect for a spotting scope that comes "free" in certain Burris scope/spotting scope packages........a "free" scope with a lifetime warranty?

It is irrelevant what you think. What matters is the TRUTH.
