Question. I have an excess of 30-06 rifles, and one that would make a very nice 300 H&H. Will a 300 H&H reamer clean up a 30-06 chamber without having to set back the barrel?

Yes, it was common practice to do to 1917s years ago. I have a couple done that way.

.

I'd want to first check to ensure that the Super.30 (.300H&H) will fit in the magazine of whatever rifle's being contemplated as the subject for the conversion.

Remington 30 / 1917 Enfield's were best suited for the conversion, because of their magazine box, to say nothing of their comparitive stoutness, to whatever else was available between the wars.

Chambering issues aside, the 300 H&H is much longer than a 30-06, so be sure the magazine is long enough. Most 30-06 rifles won't have enough magazine length. Also, you'll have to change the bolt face to magnum size and reconfigure the magazine / feed rails for the wider cartridge.

Seems like a lot of work for an extra 180 fps.

I worked in a shop for quite a while, and the resident gunsmith specialized in converting .30-06's to .308 Norma or .300 Winchester, .270's to .270 Weatherby, etc. The real challenge was getting the feeding to work properly. His real money maker was correcting that, when not so handy gunsmiths dropped the ball.

The .300 Winchester Mag is the same length as the .30-06 - both are shorter than the .300H&H.
