I have a custom built 264 win mag, built on a 700 action. I am the second owner. It has a very crisp trigger, with virtually no over travel, but the poundage has to be up around 4.5 lbs or so. I'm wondering if any one can tell me what type of trigger this is, ( factory or aftermarket) and how to take a little poundage off. What say you?

I have the same trigger on a 700 I own. I have the trigger down to 2.5 lbs and the front screw head barely protrudes from the trigger housing. If your trigger is at 4 1/2 lbs (did you use a gauge?) then you probably need a lighter replacement spring you can buy at Ernie the Gunsmith.

Or get a Timney and be done with it. It is a factory X Mark. Some people can get them to run good. I prefer to not beat my head against concrete walls.

Any idea on how to drop the poundage without installing a new spring? Do I screw the front facing screw in some more???
