Does anyone run these barrels? How do these compare to some of the big name barrels?

The 280 Remington is overbore.
The 7 Rem Mag is over bore.

Obermeyer was the originator of the 5R rifling style that so many manufactures copy today. I run an Obermeyer 7.2 twist on a 7WSM modified throat rifle for one mile matches. Throat was designed to fire Berger 180 grain VLD's with the boat tail and bearing surface junction seated to the bottom of the neck. RL 25 gives 3150 FPS from the 28 inch length.

Obermeyer is NEVER a bad choice IMHO. They are at the top of the group of makers(along with some others of course)
We can keep Larry Root and all his idiotic blabber and user names on here, but we can't get Ralph back..... Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, over....

Im running a Obermeyer AMU+ in 300 RSAUM with 210g Berger LRBTs for 1000 yard bench rest Silhouette. Something you should be aware of with Obermeyer is that he runs a tight bore diameter. For example... a 30 caliber barrel from just about anyone else, has a 300 diameter bore and a .308 diameter groove depth.Boots barrels are .298....It requires your gunsmith to have the right sized pilots to chamber it. I have not noticed any pressure problems with this tight bore size at all. The first round from a clean cold barrel is as accurate as is number 200. The thing just does not care how clean or dirty it it. Mine is still clicking along at 1400 rounds with no problems. I'd say the biggest problem with these barrels is getting them.

I'm sitting on a 30 cal 11.25 twist right now. Actually I've had it 5 years. It might become a something someday.

got a 7mm tube being worked by a smith right now onto a 700 action. 2nd what was stated about the right pilot for a tighter-than-usual bore.
anxious to see how she shoots. guessing way better than the nut behind the trigger.

I bet it shoots great. From what I've gathered most of the USA and even some international cut rifled barrel makers are barrel making descendants of Boots Obermeyer.

Biggest problem with his barrels are getting them. He has a ridiculous backlog. Not all his barrels are undersized like mentioned. I have had one and it was able to be chambered with a standard chambering reamer with a solid pilot. Palma barrels are typically tight but not the others.

Yea, if you even THINK you want a custom barrel, just order it now and start collecting other parts and components, same with McMillan stocks

I called him in February, he answered the phone and said he was running 6.5 barrels at the time and I could have one in a week. You wanna guess the rest of the story? Barrel makers...................

I had Krieger do the same thing, had a #1 contour stainless barrel in a week (308 12-twist). Said since I was in AZ he would do a light contour SS barrel for me! Last one took 6 months! Last time I tried to get an Obermeyer, it was more than a year so I gave up!

In August of 07 I talked with Boots and emailed my order a week later as he wanted my order in print. Ordered a 6.5 for a 260 build and a 30 cal for a 308 build. He claimed a couple wks for the 30 and 90 days for the 6.5 at that time. Got the 30 cal in Dec. He was doing contract work at the time for 30 cal blanks for IIRC the Knight SR-25??? Dec of 08 we talked and I needed another 30 cal, it was in hand in 2wks. Still no 6.5's being done he said. I begged and pleaded for a 6.5 but nuttin. Finally found a 9.1 tw in 1000yd contour for sale on Benchrest Central and bought it. Made a last ditch effort with another email in Dec of '10. Finally he responded and wanted to know what I needed as he couldn't find my order and thought he mistakenly did mine for someone else. In Jan of 11 on a Sunday eve I received an email that he was going to look orders over in his shop Monday morning and figure out why I didn't have mine. Told him I would take a Rem Varmint contour in 6.5 or even an M40, whichever or both and also another 30 M40 contour if he could some day. 3 days later a 6.5 arrived UPS, next day a 6.5 M40 UPS and next day a 30 cal M40 UPS. UPS driver was played out walking up my drive 3 days in a row. lol Don't know why he didn't ship them all together? Maybe he was afraid he'd croak and I would get nothing. Anyhoo all 3 consectively numbered so now they set and I kinda hate to ruin the triplet collection! So roughly 3.5yrs to get the 6.5 I wanted and now set for over 2yrs as I don't know if I want a 260 anymore and if so what contour. Heck of a dilemma! Got another 6.5 I bought off fleabay after I waited a yr. So I have 3 6.5's in 8.75 twist which he recommended even for 140 class of bullets and what he shoots in a 22/250 necked up for competition. Also 2 M40 30 cals. So now I am Oby poor. Sure enjoy talking with the old gent! Wished I lived closer and could visit him as that melon of his has a lot of experience etc in it over the yrs.
