Here are my four lightweight lefty rifles ranging from 6# 1.7oz to 7# 15.5oz. From top to bottom. ULA Model 20 in 6mm Rem. 24" tube and a 3-9x40 Elite Firefly in ULA/Talley LW's. 6# 9.3oz as pictured. Remington 700KS in .270 Winchester. Early Brown stocked model. 24" tube and a ridiculously heavy Vortex Viper 4-16x44 HS LR in S&K's. 7# 15.5oz as pictured. This one is a bit on the porky side with the 20oz Viper on it. Savage 116 in 6mm-284 Lapua. 24" 8 twist 5R rifled Rock #2 threaded nutless. EDGE stock. Numerous refinements throughout. Leupold 2.5-8x36 VX3 in S&K's. IMO the finest lightweight Savage ever built. Unfortunately it came in over my 7# goal at 7# 3.3oz as pictured. Looks like a 3-9x33 VX2 Ultralight and TLW's are destined for this rifle. These will take it to 7# even or very slightly lower. Kimber of Oregon M84 in 6x47. 22" tube. Unknown stock, likely an MPI, that weighs 19.3oz. 3-9x33 VX2 Ultralight in TLW's. 6# 1.7oz as pictured. These are my present lefty lightweights and I'm sorry to say that one of them has to go to help pay to tool up my vertical mill. Willing to entertain offers on any of them. For the Kimber and the KS the offers will have to be spectacular however. Lets see your lefty lightweights.

This is the closest thing to anything lightweight I have. Remington 700 BDL with a Shilen 24-inch barrel in .250-3000 Savage. With the Leupold VX-II 3x9 in Leupold STD bases and rings it weighs in somewhere around 7 lbs and 3 oz.
I have come here to chew bubblegum and kick ass. And I'm all out of bubblegum. I do tend to fit in well wherever I go in person. The campfire is the most outside exposure I get. No TV, no newspaper.

To the OP: of the four, which is your favorite for overall feel and balance? Not looking to buy at this time, just wondering how you compare them.

The Kimber by far.
The KS with a more suitable scope is a great rifle too. Fantastic actually.
Not enough time with the other two to form an opinion but first impressions are very positive.

Here's my Savage 116 (7 mm mag) lefty that I had restocked by Stockade Stocks. It's about 8 pounds with scope. Kevin at Stockade converted it to a blind mag center feed, which I kinda like. Only issue, if it is one, is it's a pain to load the magazine. But once it's loaded, it's totally reliable. This is probably one of the best "all-weather" rifles I own...stainless, fiberglass and aluminum. The group is five shots, by the way, with Fed factory. Bob

This is my lightest lefty bolt action rifle a Stainless Winchester Model 70 .270 Win in a McMillan Edge. I had a 2.5-8x32 Conquest and replaced it with this Victory Vari-point 2.5-10x42 with the #60 illuminated reticle. Love it.

Top to bottom: Remington 700 RH/.270 Win. in an old (and sadly defunct) Garrett Accur-Lite Featherweight fiberglass stock, Leupold Vari-X II 3-9x, 7.55lbs. (this is my son's rifle) Remington 700 LH/.300 Win Mag, Shilen #3, Brown Precision Pounder (Kevlar) stock, Vari-X III 2.5-8x, 8.64lbs. Remington 700 LH/.270 Wby, Douglas #3, factory KS stock, Vari-X III 3.5-10x, 8.26lbs. The two LH 700's have Dakota steel bottom metal. And two that are unfinished: Mauser 3000L/.270 Win., Shilen #2, Hi-Tech Specialties fiberglass stock, Leupold M-7 7.5x, 7.73lbs. Remington 700 LH/.270 Wby, Shilen #1, factory KS stock, Vari-X II 3-9x, Dakota bottom metal, 7.42lbs. This rifle had the Garrett stock (as seen above) for many years, until I found the KS stock. None of these are particularly light. The all-steel bottom metal, rings, bases, and heavier tubes obviously don't help. OTOH, I think the weights are about right for the calibers. Any lighter, the recoil gets obtrusive. Especially the magnums.

Looks like my black and yellow Kimber is in the lead in the lightest rifle sweepstakes. Hard to beat 6# 1.7oz. And the weight is a result of action size and stock weight because the barrel measures a full .600" at the 22" muzzle. The heavier barrel really contributes to the superb balance of this rifle.
Nice rifles RGK, Win, and Prime!!

I would like to build up a 6mm Remington and am curious as to what action others would use as a donor. Should it be a standard length action?

Stick don't like it though! I wouldn't build one on a SA 700 action though. Some of the 3" magazine SA's would work though. The MRC and the M70 fit that bill.

I had a 6mm on a LA LH 700 action at one point, with a Shilen #2. I'm still kicking myself in the azz for selling it.

Hey Ken, any updates on the guns you had for sale? The LH .270 KS lost almost 10 oz on its way to KY. Now 7lbs, 6oz with VX3 2.5x8 on top. Should be fine for Colorado this fall...

nsaqam,
What happened to that 270 stiller/lilja/McEdge that Redneck put together? That one went to a fine member here for his lefthanded daughter. Pretty fortunate (and I'm sure very deserving) daughter I'd say. He happens to also be the guy who originally sold me the much travelled 700 KS now in Warren's care. The ugly .260 went up to AK. Would've liked to keep that one too but cest la vie.
