How do you think by banding lead for hunting and using only copper will effect your state? It is a fact that California will ban all lead in the next few years. As they say "as California go so goes the rest of the states".

There is a vote in appropriations on Monday, please take the time to send a well constructed email noting that these decisions should be left to the biologists at CA DFW, there has been no marked improvement in lead blood levels in condors in the last 5 years, and the increase in cost puts out most vulnerable citizens at risk of increased fees.

I'm NOT a believer in copper over lead. I feel it's an excuse.

How long TILL they find 'some' problem w/copper?

IMO, it's a rung on the ladder to BAN HUNTING!!

Yep, the ATF raided a business about a year ago claiming that the all copper Barnes bullets that the business had modified slightly (I think they changed the tip or profile slightly) were illegal because the bullets met the definition of armor piercing under some federal law. If the anti's ban lead bullets, we're up the creek without a paddle because the feds will step in with some determination that the monometals are illegal, too.

If lead is all that bad I think they'd better get rid of all those car batterys first.

Don't get caught dumping a car battery in the county landfill. Some places take a very dim view of that.

Just like steel shot is of such great benefit to waterfowl. More loss to wounding/more cripples, the only good reason for steel shot was to reduce the effectiveness of those doing the shooting. If that wasn't the case you wouldn't need to use steel while field hunting for waterfowl.

I have a couple of thoughts on the lead ban

First it will render all muzzleloaders and 22 rim fires as we know them obsolete

On the Condor issue about a year ago I read an article that was pointing out that one of the natural food sources for the condors in the past had been the carcasses of seals and seal lions along the coast but that environmental changes had altered that. The article made the comment that there were now efforts by the wildlife agencies in California to establish feeding sites ie dead seal for the condors and that made up the majority of their diet now. Didn't seem to jive with the lead bullet theory from eating gut piles left by deer hunters. California needs to realize If they can't thrive with the spoon feeding both literally and figuratively they have received over the past 30 years then lead isn't keeping them on the verge of extinction. Talk about wasted government spending.

Someone mentioned tossing out car batteries. How about all those pencils out there? Think that will ever happen?

Thanks for the update.

Bingo +1

Even if they were unsucessful in banning hunting, it is a way non-hunters are trying to get their foot in the door for manipulating hunting or administration of hunting rules.

The move to ban lead is gathering pace over here and I have no doubt it is simply a back door method of attacking shooting and hunting..

Peter

Colorado DOW has some anti lead propaganda on page 1 of their online big game page. How many documented cases of lead poisoning from consumming bullet fragments have there been? It isn't about the lead.

The lead ban bill has been put off till August I believe. They are having a special committee look at the justification and ifit will really be effective as the Codor Zone lead ban is not helping them at all. Still a lot of die offs

The Condors are going because they are no longer a viable lifeform in their eco system, just that simple. Doesn't have a damn thing to do with lead, never has. The left knows they are on the way out but figures to use them to get rid of lead in bullets.Just that simple, better luck riviving the condor by getting rid of the left with lead. It's easy to see when one doesn't live there.
