Always cut ours straight across about 1/4" thick, wet them with milk, throw them in flour or cornmeal, and fry!
Yum-Yum!

fried is the only way to eat squash Roger, I cut mine and meal them then fry with onions in a little oil. What I wondered is how about cooking them in deep oil just like french fries? Can't see why it wouldn't work. I love fried squash w/onions. I have five squash plants and they're producing so much that my neighbors won't come to the door when I ring their bell.

You're talking deep frying..
You bet it works, #1 way to cook it around here. You can go from a light fry leaving it tender inside, all the way to almost potato chip consistency.
IMO, thinner is better, cook till golden, just don't burn the cornmeal, I like to spice up the meal with a couple Tbs of Tony Chachere seasoning.
And if you dip in buttermilk before you add the meal, they'll be crispier...

Fried is ok, but the way to cook yellow squash is as follows.
Slice tender squash up into medallions/bite sized pieces. Add roughly equal parts onion pieces. Throw in a bit of salt and sugar. Mostly cover with water and boil to tender. Drain water off, add a few slices of American cheese. Melt cheese and enjoy.
I like yellow squash, only planted 20 hills this year, about 5 plants per hill........

they have em at our fair here Mickey, they're great
but I've failed to do them at home, I either just grill em or saute them in some olive oil with salt and pepper
no breading on them at home, but they do have breading on the ones at the fair.
my lawdy but that's good eatin, dang near anyway you fix em
if you come up for our fair in August I'll treat you to a mess
I'm pretty certain when we sing our anthem and mention the land of the free, the original intent didn't mean cell phones, food stamps and birth control.

Mickey, my mother always preferred to cook Summer squash as follows.
Slice into 1/4" rounds and do the same with one or two sweet onions. Take 6 slices of good smoked bacon and crisp in a cast iron skillet. Add squash and onions and saute until tender. Add salt/pepper to your liking and then enjoy!

Yum-Yum! Normally I just cook then in a frying pan and serve on toast with black sauce...but I am going to try your way next.
These are my opinions, feel free to disagree.

Aside from squash soup, the only way I've eaten squash is baked. All this fried talk has my attention though...
