Had a little rain last weekend. I found a mudhole with silty clay that seemed to have no bottom to it. Had to break out the winch for the first time in a while............

There used to be a hog trap next to that hole. It's still there, you just can't see it anymore.........

Pretty small wheels for the mud. Soil texture definitely makes a big difference in what can be negotiated. In places like WY and SD with pure bentonite clay, if it rains on a flat road you are stuck even with chains on all four wheels. No choice but to wait until it dries out.

"Muddin" is not so much fun if you do it as a part of making ar a living.

I never really believed this until it happened to me on a trail in a SD dog town many years ago.
Cloud burst hit and we were stuck. Thankfully, I had the common sense to just stop before I dug any deeper. We spent a few hours walking and shooting.
That SD sun and wind will dry out anything in a hurry. Came back and drove it out. I can't remember how many dollars of quarters it took to wash that nasty stuff off the truck, but I was certainly impressed.
I've never seen a road turn to "grease" so quick like that.

I spent half of a day on my last vacation stuck in the wyo/montanda mud after a spring 2" snowfall melted. It dries on your vehicle like concrete and makes the boots real heavy.

Those are 26" Kenda Executioner Mud tires, almost look like a slightly wider ag tire. It would take a whole lot bigger tire to get through that mess, thankful for a good winch. The Honda is actually very capable in poor conditions compared with its contemporaries. I've hauled a few Rangers out of mudholes with it. Mechanically selectable front and rear diff locks make it easier for me to get into deeper sh1t before I get stuck smile. We have one swampy area on the lease that still has a D8 dozer buried in it. The logging company wrote it off about 15 years ago. It has disappeared from sight.

Like that old saying: With a two wheel drive truck you can go in the woods and get stuck. With a four wheel drive truck you can go deep in the woods,,,,,,,,,,and get stuck. wink
