I recently received this Redfield scope on a rifle I purchased and other than the Redfield 3X9 on the side, there are no other identifying marks or writing. It is a 50mm objective lens. I don't know Redfields, so I thought I would go to the collective for help. Thanks in advance. Here are some pics:

It looks like the Illuminator, but should say so on the scope.

There is an auction on ebay right now for one of these scopes, but it has no information on model. I thought this might be a 5-star, but I don't think so because it is not marked as such.

The illuminator had a gloss finish and was a 30mm tube far as I know. This scope is pre Meade by a few years.

Oldelkhunter,

What exactly do you mean by pre Meade (the current owners of Redfield?). What is the story with the Redfields made in Denver, and when was this? Thanks for the post, BTW.

I have that exact scope and i purchased it from Midway several years ago. But i don't remember what the model is. Could be Midway would know. It's never been on a gun yet so i can't give an opinion on it. As i remember it wasn't too expensive. It's gotta be one of the lower lines.

Redfield went out of business because of enviornmental issues sometime in the 80's . Meanwhile they were picked up and manufactured again in Japan. Is this scope Japanese made? Current Owners are Meade Instruments.

I assume it is made in Japan - I just can't understand why there is nothing to identify the scope other than what you see in the picture. 3x9x and Redfield is it... hence my confusion. I appreciate the help.

Man, how come so many L61R's came with Redfields on 'em....? Two of mine did....and I've seen them on a bunch of others.

Actually, it came on a pre-Garcia L579 - and looked silly - so I thought I would try it on my L61R.
