New range opened up near Fort Carson about six months ago. I belong to a club/private shooting range, but since Fort Carson is 10 minutes away I've been going there when I need a "quick fix" mainly for pistol. All proceeds go to the MWR fund so it's a good cause. Anyway last week I brought the 270 Weatherby (bought very well used for under $1000) with factory ammo for a lark (my garage is a mess so I haven't been able/willing to reload). I had sighted in my Zeiss 4.5 - 14x scope last year. I set up and the range officer asked me if I wanted to set up a target, I said no, I'm just going to shoot the gongs (the guy next to me muttered [bleep] and laughed, he was sighting in at 200 yards. Missed the scuba tank at 600 plus yards with the first and second shots, then hit with the next three (I had no range finder). Hit the 850 yard gong and started packing up. The very nice man next to me shooting at 200 yards and the range officer both laughed at me and said [bleep]! Left after 30 minutes feeling good ...

Me too. I love the Frontier Fountain Range. I prefer to shoot there, but it's a 40 minute drive each way. For an hour of pistol shooting or shooting gongs, the Carson range is a nice change and a 10 minute drive.
